We’re looking forward to introducing you to David Taylor. Check out our conversation below.
Hi David, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
What’s bringing me joy lately outside of work is me working on my own creative projects. I just published two books, signed a new recording artist and getting back into making videos for my social media accounts.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is David Taylor, also known as musical artist King David the Recruiter and pen name Dauid Yashar’el Yahudah, and I’m the founder of Straight Street Records, a faith-driven, culturally rooted hip-hop label dedicated to creating powerful, purposeful, and truth-centered art. My creative journey spans both music and literature. Musically, I’ve released impactful projects such as Chronicles of David and continue to develop new sounds that uplift and inspire. As an author, I’ve written The Awakening: Deuteronomy 28, The Elect: The Hidden Remnant in the Last Days, and my newest book, The Davidic Prince in the Last Days, which will be available December 4th on all major book platforms and outlets. What makes my brand unique is its fusion of biblical depth, real-life experience, and artistic expression—everything I create is meant to spark thought, identity, and purpose.
Straight Street Records is in a powerful growth phase right now. Our newest artist, Yosean, released his debut single “Oxygen” earlier this month, and his full album is scheduled to drop at the beginning of the year. I’m also preparing to release my own album this summer, continuing the momentum of our expanding catalog. Beyond music and books, I’m working on acquiring a dedicated community-centered space for social gatherings, cultural events, creative workshops, and entertainment. The goal is to build not just a label, but a movement—a home for creativity, awakening, and connection that serves both our artists and our community on a deeper level.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
I would have to say may older sister saw me clearly before I saw myself. We were basically enemies growing up. Later in years she explained that I used to frustrate her because she saw so much potential in me, but I refused to live up to it. I navigated to the street life.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me how to appreciate people and things and not to take them for granted. It has also taught me how to choose better friends in my circle.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Most definitely. I do my best to live an open, honest and transparent life. What you see is what you get.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I think the biggest misunderstanding about my legacy will be the belief that everything I do—my music, my books, my teaching, my branding—is simply about creativity or entertainment. In reality, my work is part of a much larger assignment. I’m not just making songs or writing books; I’m documenting a journey, restoring identity, and giving voice to a people and a purpose that history often tried to erase. Some may see what I do as just artistic expression, but the truth is that every project—The Awakening, The Elect, and now The Davidic Prince in the Last Days—is part of a blueprint for awakening, empowerment, and cultural restoration.
Another thing people might misunderstand is that my legacy isn’t about elevating myself—it’s about elevating others. It’s about building Straight Street Records into a platform where artists like Yosean, who just released his single “Oxygen,” can rise and be heard. It’s about creating community spaces, opportunities, and pathways for those coming after me. My legacy is not a moment; it’s a movement. And long after the music stops playing or the book sales slow down, the mission—to awaken, to heal, to inspire, and to restore—will remain.
