An Inspired Chat with Jerome Melo of Saint Paul

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Jerome Melo. Check out our conversation below.

Jerome, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
Lately, I have been working from home, focusing on video editing and managing the business. When I’m not at home, I’m out on shoots. We have expanded our services, which means we’re implementing various strategies to better accommodate our clients. For instance, we have started offering social media management and website management.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jerome, and I am the owner of Melo Multimedia, a video production company based in Minnesota. I started creating content at the age of 16, initially making YouTube parkour videos before transitioning to professional video production. I hold a degree in video production from HTC in Brooklyn Park, Minneapolis.

After relocating to St. Paul, MN, I began collaborating with businesses throughout the state, helping them grow through strategic video marketing. I have worked with various sectors, including healthcare, non-profits, education, sports, commercial clients, and corporate organizations.

We have started offering more services to our clients. For instance, we now officially provide camera and rental support for out-of-town production companies—something we didn’t promote online in the past, which has now become a significant portion of our revenue.

Additionally, by expanding our digital marketing services, we have been able to retain clients on a long-term basis, empowering us to advocate for their needs. When it makes sense, we can continue to offer video services alongside what we are already providing.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
During my trip to Europe, I realized how vast and beautiful the world is, and that we should take the time to enjoy it. Even if we encounter minor setbacks, they aren’t as significant as they may seem in the moment. It’s important to cherish the moments we spend with family and explore all that the world has to offer. We all want to make money and live a rich life, but at the end of the day, those are just material things, and we shouldn’t focus our lives around them.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Entrepreneurship is all about persistence, even when people don’t want to listen to you. This year started rough, and I thought things couldn’t get any worse; and then they did. I was considering shifting to a completely different industry. However, as I realized, those tough moments are just small blips in the grand scheme of things. Fortunately, things have turned around, and we are on track to have our biggest year yet. We want to keep building on this momentum by continually marketing our business and improving our offerings, step by step. I have thought about giving up at times, but I remain determined.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
Some video companies, when planning to sell a video to a business owner, think that if a business owner sells a product for $10,000 and you help them secure one client, charging $10,000 for your video might seem reasonable. However, video performance can be hard to track, especially if the business owner isn’t running ads with that video. This raises the question: how can you guarantee that they will acquire a client solely from the video you created? It’s a challenging proposition.

This is why I prefer to highlight the various ways a video can positively impact a business. For example, a high-quality video can enhance how a brand is perceived compared to competitors using amateur phone videos on their websites. Additionally, a well-produced video can save time by informing potential clients about what to expect, making the sales process smoother. These are just some of the ways a good video can improve your business.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Working, spending more time with family, friends, and traveling the world, trying things I haven’t, and just enjoying life.
