Check Out Adam Davis’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Davis.

Hi Adam, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My introduction to photography and the creative world was brought to me around 8 years ago. I had the opportunity to travel to Yosemite National Park with my family when I was 15 and in high school. This was the most insane experience of my life and I fell in love primarily with landscapes and wanted to drop everything and go on adventures for the rest of my life. My brother had brought his old Nikon DSLR on the trip and I remember being super jealous of him being able to document our travels when all I had was my iPod at the time. However, given the technology of what I had with me, I began taking photos on our hikes and of my family, not knowing that these were the beginning of my passion. Soon after returning back to Iowa (yes, I know, it’s a huge geological difference from California), my brother gifted me his camera as my own and I quickly dove into learning everything I possibly could about the craft. I started shooting anything and everything I could and looked up to tons of talented photographers from all around to learn as much as I could. Three years later, I was able to develop a decent following on Instagram where I continue to show my work and portfolio today! In 2018, I studied Digital Media Production and Marketing at The University of Northern Iowa where I was eager to learn more about videography and marketing to round out my skills a bit more. I was thankful to have some wise professors in the industry and talented classmates to learn from while at UNI. Four years later, I have had the chance to create content for some industry-leading brands and am getting closer and closer to being able to do what I love full-time!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road in the past 8 years. Not only does life throw some unrelated and unexpected curveballs, but the creative market and industry is constantly changing and creating adversities. It is crucial to keep learning and developing your skill, even if you may think you know it all…you don’t. You have to adapt to current creative trends or technologies in order to distinguish yourself from other creatives. It is also very difficult to just start. People and brands may not love your work, but if you are truly passionate about what you do and create, then your audience will come. That was one of the most difficult things that I have learned throughout my time as a creative professional.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Mainly, I am an adventure and landscape photographer at heart. I love traveling and seeing places that most don’t have the opportunity to see. This is the sole reason I fell in love with photography and videography – being able to explore and adventure. Currently, you can find me shooting all sorts of subjects rather than just landscapes. I have had the pleasure of creating content for some high-class brands; this work is more lifestyle, product, and commercial based. However, I like to keep an adventure aspect in most of my work, whether that be hiking, climbing, traveling, or anything outside. I also have started incorporating more videography into my workload and have had the opportunity to create videos for some brands as well as shoot weddings when I can. As far as the work that I’m most proud of, I’d have to say my adventure-based travel content that features a smaller subject in a larger landscape. I tend to shoot a lot of these as they are moments that are hard to beat.

How do you think about happiness?
There are many things that I appreciate in this life. Family, friends, my girlfriend Lauren, good food; those are a given. Probably the thing that makes me happiest is when I am doing things that make me feel most alive. Standing in unfamiliar places, being exposed to the face of a mountain, watching sunrise/sunset with the people I love; these make me happy to be on this beautiful planet.
