Check Out Aleks Sarić’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aleks Sarić.

Hi Aleks, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve loved design since I was young and was always drawn to drawing and creating. At 21, I started working at a furniture store and began teaching myself interior design while also learning from experienced designers. I quickly saw how it helped me give clients a better experience and more value. I later became certified through HOM University and worked as the official interior designer for HOM Furniture. After building a strong client base, I launched my own firm, Design Express. We’ve been very busy and successful in the area and are now expanding further.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges came after reaching a point where business was booming. We had more projects than could physically be handled by one person, which meant I had to start looking for additional designers, assistant designers, and support staff. Balancing growth while maintaining the quality and care our clients expect has been a key focus. It’s an ongoing process, but it’s also a great problem to have

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize mainly in residential design, though I’ve taken on many commercial projects as well. I’m known for being extremely hands-on and guiding clients through the entire process until the result is exactly what they envisioned. I provide multiple options and directions, fine-tuning every detail to make sure they’re completely satisfied. Some clients prefer me to handle everything and make all the decisions for them, while others want to collaborate and customize. Either way, I adapt to their needs and create a seamless experience.

With my background in furniture, I bring an added level of expertise in selecting the right pieces—finding the perfect balance of comfort, functionality, and style. I often work with new builds and clients moving into new homes, helping them simplify what can feel like an overwhelming process. Whether it’s furnishing an empty space, refreshing a room, or creating a cohesive design plan, I make it as easy and enjoyable as possible.

What sets me apart is the value I offer. Interior design can easily cost thousands, but I’m known for providing incredible results at price points that make professional design accessible. For first-time clients, I often take on projects start to finish for as little as $100 to show them the value we can bring.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next five to ten years, I think interior design will become more accessible and more integrated with the furniture industry. One change I would like to see, and that I am working toward, is creating a more design-forward approach in furniture stores. Right now, many stores feel cookie cutter. Customers are often assigned salespeople who lack the expertise to help with real design decisions. I see an opportunity to change that by building a system where customers can shop freely, like at IKEA, but also have the option to work with trained design consultants for a more personalized experience.

I also see potential in expanding design services through technology. For example, allowing people anywhere in the world to get affordable, high-quality design help online just by sending in photos of their space. Making professional design accessible to more people at every price point is a shift I believe the industry needs, and it is a direction I am excited to help lead.
