Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Klecker.
Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story really began with a lifelong love for homes, rooted in growing up with a dad who worked in the trades. I was always comfortable around construction and the technical side of how houses work, but I didn’t realize until later how much those structures impact our internal health.
The real turning point happened in my 20s when I discovered that our well water was contaminated. Finding out that the water we relied on every day contained harmful chemicals was a wake-up call. It led me down a long path of research to understand how this was allowed to happen and what it meant for our long-term wellness. I started connecting the dots, realizing that if things like Teflon chemicals were dangerous in our water, they certainly weren’t healthy to have in our cookware or other household materials.
This experience changed how I viewed the concept of a safe haven. I realized that our homes are not necessarily the healthy spaces we have been taught to believe they are. This personal mission to protect my own family grew into a professional calling. I became a home inspector and a certified building biology practitioner so I could provide others with the science-based answers I had to work so hard to find for myself. And specifically teach those who had no idea how unhealthy homes could be.
Today, I run Healthy House on the Block to empower other homeowners with fact-based knowledge. I want to help families, especially those who feel overwhelmed by the research, to reduce toxins and create a space that truly supports their well-being. It is about taking that power back and feeling confident that your home is genuinely the safest place for your family.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest hurdles is simply the amount of education required. Most people are unaware of how much their living environment impacts their health, and when you start talking about things like toxin reduction or mold prevention, it sometimes gets an eye roll. Changing that mindset and helping people see their home as a tool for wellness takes a lot of patience.
Being a woman in a male-dominated trade also brings its own set of challenges. Holding my own and being seen as an equal in a space where my perspective on health-focused construction isn’t always welcome has been a struggle. I bring a different lens to home projects, and while it’s vital for the family’s well-being, it can be an uphill battle to get others on the job site to prioritize those standards.
Beyond that, the work itself is often invisible. Unlike a traditional designer, I’m often asking people to invest in things they can’t see, like better air filtration or safer building materials. It’s also a challenge to keep up with the constant stream of new research so I can provide the most accurate, science-based advice to my clients. I want to empower them without causing overwhelm, which means I’m constantly filtering a lot of complex information into something actionable and kind.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in the intersection of home construction and human health as both a certified building biology practitioner and a home inspector. My work is focused on identifying the hidden environmental risks in our homes, from mold and poor air quality to electromagnetic radiation and toxic building materials. Through Healthy House on the Block, I provide homeowners with science-based consulting and a structured path to a low-toxin life, most notably through my online course, the Healthy Home Blueprint.
What sets me apart is my ability to bridge the gap between technical construction and wellness. Growing up in the trades gives me a unique perspective on how homes work, which allows me to provide practical, high-standard solutions that actually work in a real-world setting. I am most proud of helping families move past the overwhelm of research and into a place of confidence. Empowering parents to feel like they are truly providing a safe, supportive space for their children is exactly why I started this business.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see the healthy home industry moving from a niche interest to a foundational part of how we live. Over the next 5 to 10 years, we’re going to see a major shift where the home is no longer just a place to stay, but a tool for recovery and longevity.
One of the biggest changes will be in transparency and technology. We’re moving toward a standard where homes are equipped with real-time monitoring for things like air quality, radon, and water purity, just like we have smoke detectors today. This data will take the guesswork out of home health, allowing families to see exactly how their space is performing.
I also anticipate a massive rise in bio-based and detoxified materials becoming the baseline in construction rather than a luxury. With increasing awareness around “forever chemicals” and indoor toxins, homeowners are going to demand spaces that support their circadian rhythms, nervous systems, and overall biological health. Ultimately, the industry is moving toward a future where a healthy, low-toxin home is seen as a basic necessity for long-term wellness.
