Check Out Anabel Leon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anabel Leon.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
To get where I am today has been a long road full of trial and error, lessons learned, and a lot of insight and personal growth. As a first-generation college student, I started my education without knowing what I was doing or why. I knew I had to start doing something because I was on the brink of doing nothing. Along the way, I realized I was interested in Psychology and obtained a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. Through my time in graduate school, I developed a passion for subjects related to personal growth, such as mindsets, goal setting, and self-confidence. I began applying the things I was learning to my personal life, pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and learning to love who I am while embracing the next step in my journey. I decided to start sharing my growth on social media and developed a passion for showing other women that they can grow too and how to get started. Now, here I am!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
If you had asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up in high school, I would have had no clue. If you had told me I’d be coaching other women five years ago, I would have had a hard time believing that. I struggled with finding my identity from a very early age, always battling with Imposter Syndrome and low confidence and not being smart enough, talented enough, successful enough – never enough. While there were many contributing factors to this mindset that were outside of my control, a lot of it came down to my thoughts about myself and what I could achieve. So I wouldn’t describe it as a bumpy road per say, but it’s definitely been one with a lot of twists and turns as I navigated both the obstacles and opportunities. However, once I started working through my own limiting beliefs, building myself up internally and externally, I found the strength and courage to show up for myself fully. In doing so, I can now show up for other women who are where I once was.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a full-time job in higher education at a local community college which I enjoy. I get to show up for my community and help students navigate the college process, especially those first-generation students. My entire job takes up a lot of time, but it also allows me to advance in my life coaching business without stressing things like client numbers and finances. Although people have heard of life coaching, few know what it truly is. That’s because it’s such a broad industry, and the idea of hiring someone to help you with your life is met with resistance. Why would you need someone to tell you how to set goals or that you need to be more confident? Life coaching is very similar to a sports coach, music coach, or personal trainer. It’s working with people to help with the process of getting from A to B. I specialize in assisting women in creating goals that are truly aligned with what they want at the moment, and that will ultimately support the lifestyle they want to create for themselves. This means creating a personalized approach to work through mindset blocks such as imposter syndrome and limiting beliefs, gaining clarity on where they are right now and where they want to be, and finding the courage and confidence to show up for themselves authentically every single day.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the selection of landscapes and surroundings. You can have a night out on the town downtown, or have a relaxed brunch in uptown, or maybe hit a park and enjoy nature! I would love to see even more cultural diversity and events in the city.
