Check Out Anna Granholm’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Granholm

Hi anna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started from rock bottom and some days I feel as if I am still there. I work hard to learn new skills everyday to get to where I am going. I am an aspiring artist who loves to illustrate books and simply for fun. I am currently working towards being my own publisher of books; working on book design and typography.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road of an artist is a rough road for employment. Starting out I was working on social media posts to get my name and artwork out there. There was not any money coming due to people not needing commissions from me. The art I provided wasn’t wanted because it felt as if the whole art world at that time appeared the same and I needed to work towards to standing out. This made me start to create stories and mythologies of my own, and I created original characters that followed a story line. I am still processing the story and creating a comic series to go with it. This road of mine is a long one and I am working a full time job as an educator, but take summers off to focus on my art. I hope to one day make my art be my long time job.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an illustrator who worked for a Native American publishing company called Black Bears and Blueberries and it taught me many things of my culture as well as my ability to create. This was a stepping stone to illustrating other book. and even one of my own. Although I just “draw the pictures” I aim to work towards writing and book designing my own illustrations and stories. Right now, I set up my first book in Adobe InDesign to format it into a publishable book form. I am very proud of how it appears, but I am still working on understand formats and typography. I consider my content to be different compared to others because it appears more fun and playful.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I use TikTok as my ventilation of new artworks and processes whether it be animation or simply drawing something from the art. Unfortunately sometimes criticism or views and likes affect my ability to want to continue doing art, but if I let it get to me I feel as though I’d never draw again. Instead I take it as a challenge to do better! The same goes for me setting up a website to display my abilities.
