Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Nelson.
Hi Annie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started in photography just like so many, many other mama/photographers. I was a hairstylist and mom of 2 new little girls when I purchased my first “nice” camera (a Rebel DSLR with a kit lens). I LOVED learning and dove head-first into my new creative outlet and enjoyed the results of half-decent photos of my babies. Inevitably, once people got wind of my new amazing talent (haha), the requests for photography sessions started coming in.
I was NOT interested in making this a job. I already had a “real” job, and honestly, I selfishly didn’t want to take photos of other people’s kids… I picked up this new hobby to focus on my children! Long story short, I ended up trying it out and found that I LOVED working with other families, so after a few years, (and 2 more baby girls added to our family), I gave up my job as a hairstylist to focus on my growing family, and and building my little business.
Eventually, after many requests, I also got into the educational side of photography.. teaching courses, mentorships, workshops, and now an online school!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I am blessed to be able to say that things have usually gone quite smoothly. I think in part because I never put much pressure on myself to “excel” at any of this. It was always meant to be a fun, creative outlet.
I certainly never expected things to take off the way they did! Every pivot along the way began as a curiosity I felt I was meant to follow. Like a prompting from God. I don’t have huge expectations or goals, I just do what fills my cup as a creative, and so far it’s been a wonderful ride.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a lifestyle family and newborn photographer as well as an educator and preset creator. I’m most known for my ability to tell a story through images and for my editing style.
I’m very proud of the presets I have created and released, as well as the new school I am currently creating with another photographer, “The Summit”. When I have downtime, I create art with my 4 little girls. They are my original muses and keep me inspired.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m an introvert. I love to socialize for a while, but then I crave my alone time. I wake up each day at 5 am to work in peace and get my alone time in while the rest of my family sleeps. It’s wonderful!
