Check Out Awet Alazar’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Awet Alazar.

Awet Alazar

Awet, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?

I graduated from cosmetology school in Germany almost 20 years ago. From the very beginning, opening my own business was a dream that felt deeply important to me. However, life took me on a different journey—I moved from Germany to the United States, got married, and was blessed with three beautiful children.

Even during the years I stayed home with my kids, my dream of owning a salon was always there. Once I felt ready, I found a place to work where I could gain more experience and knowledge about the industry. That experience gave me the confidence and skills to move forward and finally open my own salon and become my own boss.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?

The process of opening my salon wasn’t easy. I faced challenges, especially because I didn’t do the research I needed to fully understand how to secure funding or other resources. For me, the most important thing was simply creating a space where I could serve my clients, be creative, and feel comfortable in my own environment.

With the help of my husband, we managed to secure some funding, including a personal loan, to bring this dream to life. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m proud of the space I’ve created—a place where I can do what I love every day.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?

I consider myself not just a hairstylist, but an artist. I’m passionate about my craft and specialize in a variety of services. For me, staying stagnant isn’t an option—I love challenging myself to learn and try new things.

What sets me apart is my ability to truly listen to my clients. When someone comes in and shares their frustrations or goals for their hair, I take the time to understand their needs and work to achieve them in that one session.

I’m most proud of the person I’ve become throughout my career. I’m deeply passionate about what I do, and I take full responsibility for my work. What matters to me most is ensuring every client feels respected, valued, and cared for—just as I would want to be treated.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I do cherish growing up with my eight siblings. We spent part of our childhood in Sudan and part in Germany, which gave us such a unique experience. Being the seventh child, I always felt cared for and looked after by my older siblings.

One of my favorite things to do as a child was styling my older sisters’ hair just for fun. Back then, I had no idea that I would eventually pursue a career in the hair industry, but those moments definitely planted the seeds for my passion.
