Today we’d like to introduce you to Brady Outcelt.
Hi Brady, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
It all started in 2007 when I started playing the drums. My parents bought me my first set, and the rest was history. I taught myself by watching old Metallica and Iron Maiden videos. My first gig was when I was 16, and my first national gig was 17. Music has been my life since then. I’ve been playing nonstop and constantly on a project. The feeling of creating something that people can relate to is rewarding.
Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are many learning experiences along the way and many failures, but the more you fail, the more you learn, and the more you learn, the more you become successful at something. You just got to keep grinding. There have been times of struggle, investing in the wrong opportunities, etc., but it’s all about how you bounce back.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a team coordinator/clerical worker for M Health Fairview Ophthalmology. In other words, it pays the bills while I pursue my music career as a drummer. Music is my life. I’m the drummer of a band named Dreams Aside. I’m very passionate about the music we create. We have been at the same festival with acts such as Shinedown, Mudvayne, Motionless In White, Bullet For My Valentine, and Jelly Roll, to name a few.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
It’s all about just getting yourself out there. Send cold emails to people you are interested in connecting with or find events /promotions where others in the same profession congregate—identifying every avenue to get in front of others. YouTube also has a great source of information.
