Check Out Broderick Poole’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Broderick Poole.

Hi Broderick, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Broderick Poole is a Twin Cities-based artist hailing from Saint Paul’s historic Rondo neighborhood. He began creating art in grade school, and in 1996, his work was first featured in a national publication—a milestone that fueled his passion for both art and community.

In 2000, Broderick combined his creative talents with his desire to give back by volunteering and mentoring youth. Through his work with various organizations, he sought to inspire students to view the arts not only as a form of expression but as a viable career path.

With expertise in a broad range of artistic disciplines, Broderick launched Poole Boy Designs, which later evolved into Vintage Poole Art. Over the course of his career, he independently established one of Minnesota’s first streetwear brands and has since assisted more than 100 brands and clients with logo design, handmade patchwork, acrylic paintings, and apparel manufacturing across the Twin Cities and Chicago area.

Broderick’s art draws inspiration from his environment, often depicting landscapes, historical icons, and youth envisioning their limitless possibilities

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The initial struggle is getting capital to purchase machines and computer programs and from there creating a product or service is only of the business the marketing is a whole other side

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in teaching the youth multiple forms of art. What sets me apart and I’m known for my custom jackets and jerseys where I handcraft and sew all of the patchwork. I have made custom art for hall of fame athletes, Grammy Award winning artist and academy award winning actresses but being able to teach graphic design, fashion design and painting with the youth in my own art program is what keeps me going

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Teaching my own art program has lowered my risk taking. As an artist every day is risky. I love the challenge but I have figured out what works better. Investing in an apparel release or an event can and have been very risky so I have done my research and I’m very selective on what events I’m apart of now.
