Check Out Carolyn Ripp’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Ripp.

Hi Carolyn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been teaching movement for groups since 1987. It’s always been a love of mine . With an ACE certification, I taught in many places such as Bally Matrix, Syracuse University and UMD part- time. Although being a Registered Nurse by trade, provided wonderful career opportunities for me, I found myself searching for ways to prevent dis-ease.. With a masters in Health Education & Wellness from UMD and . discovering the all encompassing benefits of yoga, I was launched on my path to forever being a student to the ancient teachings of yoga and its benefits. With my E-RYT-500 training, I opened The Nest Wellness Studio, the first yoga studio in town . It’s been 10’years of bliss, being able to do what I love and share the many benefits of being a witness to your body , your thoughts and your heart.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being the first yoga studio in town has come with some challenges. There are limiting views that yoga somehow is a religion and is not aligned with some people’s faith . It’s important to understand yoga predates Christianity. You bring your faith to the mat and if anything strengthen the bond you already have.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
All paths led to where I landed in my studio . I utilize my nursing , my masters in health education , and my yoga trainings to reach people . I find many people see the depth of my teaching style which has led me to teach weekly at outpatient substance abuse centers in Cloquet and Duluth. I also find people with physical issues , either trying to avoid a surgery due to chronic joint issues find me or post hip/ knee / shoulder surgery and once PT is done , they continue their healing path at The Nest

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I’m not sure luck had a part in my journey as much as fate . I feel my path slowly unfolded . As a nurse, I found myself drawn to teaching and specialized as a CDE ( certified diabetic educator ) .
My part time fitness journey also at the root was being a teacher. Yoga solidified it all in one discipline. That being said , being a conduit in asssisting people to heal is not easy work. I find myself challenged to try and reach people, to be open. So many walls , layers to peel during the process of healing and growth
It takes courage to look at the parts of ourselves that we’d rather avoid. It takes perseverance, and inquiry and non judgment . My dream is to integrate this work into the mainstream, healers such as a designing a class for nursing students and med students. .
