Check Out Cheryl Stuntebeck’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Stuntebeck.

Hi Cheryl, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started in banking in 1987. I moved to mortgage in 1998 working in operations. I was in charge of the group that processed and closed all the state bond loans and self employed buyers in MN. I became very good at analyzing tax returns and complicated profiles.

I started originating mortgages in 2001. The background first in operations and underwriting makes me a better loan officer. This long history in the industry has blessed me with the experience to help home buyers navigate the homebuyer process whether it is their first home, vacation property or an investment. I can show them the best options available to meet their financial goals.

Refinancing is always an option and I pride myself in making sure the homeowner understands the full recovery time to break even on the refinance they choose. Just because a homeowner can lower their rate does not mean they should do it unless they are going to be in the home/mortgage long enough to break even.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Transitioning from an operations expert with a salary to a commissioned based loan originator took some time. I am not a natural born sales person. Getting out of my comfort zone and networking with realtors, financial planners, accountants, and basically everyone so they know what I do did not come easy to me.

Adjusting the way I attract and reach out to referral partners has changed throughout the years. Staying relevant and providing value is key but how I communicate that is what is constantly evolving.

When I started in this business the fax machine spit out paper that rolled up and the image faded over time. I had a pager and email was barely used. Most of my clients have never seen a pager these days or sent a fax on a standalone machine.

You have to evolve and grow constantly.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
