Check Out Claudia Pavan’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Pavan.

Hi Claudia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey together with words changes at the age of fifty: when I receive as a birthday gift from my husband the blog Keep Calm & Drink Coffee. Until then I had shared my writings in many other ways, which evolved over time, growing with me.

The first way was epistolary: I started writing letters, back when paper and envelopes were still used, when letters were still sent via postal service, gradually reaching more and more distant recipients in all corners of every continent.

This allowed me to write, but also to share experiences and above all to learn about customs, habits, traditions, thoughts and life, which I absorbed with as much interest as I could.

The same interest that today represents the essence of the blog: curiosity, eagerness to learn, joy in sharing and welcome for readers’ opinions and thoughts that I am always happy to receive.

At the same time, I have always loved reading and I am still omnivorous: I devour any kind of book ranging in genres, although my passion remains mystery books.

Still, with the concept of sharing and the quest for exchange, I created a bookcrossing column using the method of “pay it forward.” This means that I ask the recipient to choose in turn of an action, a gesture, a gift towards someone else.

I also love to host ideas, projects, and works that strike me or encapsulate special features.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road is always uphill, but that is part of life. In the beginning, the first obstacle was myself: the “keep calm” is actually for me and all my fears of not being up to it.

But then I changed my attitude and devoted myself to it constantly, day by day, one step at a time, and I keep doing it with enthusiasm.

It is something that I enjoy, that makes me happy, and everything else takes a back seat.

By the way, I must say that every new person I have met, every new story I have told, always enriched me, so all the time I devote is repaid by satisfaction, which in my opinion is a great value.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
What I do for the blog follows the idea that I would like to communicate, that is, the actual concept of coffee with friends: a moment of relaxation, of cheerfulness, of chatting, of smiles, of comparison. I always try to be brief just like a break, but without neglecting useful information or curiosities that can add something new to discover.

Topics are varied and range from books to music, from cinema to ecology, from fashion to traditions.

I like to talk, but I also like to listen, so I always pay special attention to the insights that arise from readers’ comments.

Another column I particularly care about is “travel from mug to mug,” so I am grateful to all readers who would like to send me a photo of their favorite cup, or of their cup at a special moment, so that I can describe and tell about different places each time.

I am very proud if I can give smiles to those who read me, and if readers decide to consider Keep Calm & Drink Coffee as a virtual place to which they can return just as they do with their favorite meeting place for friends.

What makes me different from others? My diversity. This is a play on words but it is also a way of summing up all the chaos of my nonsense.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future, I hope to be able to write in other languages besides Italian and English, this would really be my dream. My passion for words goes beyond the boundaries of my own language or dialect, which I am equally fond of, and would like to reach as many idioms as possible.

An increasingly universal coffee in all the versions that different traditions offer.

A coffee of union. A coffee for all.
