Check Out Dr. Britt Stamer’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Britt Stamer.

Hi Dr. Britt, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to pursue a career where I could be of service to others, ideally, to as many people as possible. I decided that practicing medicine would fill that desire but I always had a feeling in the background that it never fully aligned. As I was preparing for that path in college, I unexpectedly discovered naturopathic medicine. As I learned more, I realized it was exactly the kind of healing paradigm I had been seeking.

What drew me in was how naturopathic medicine blends the best of modern diagnostics with root-cause treatment and the belief that nature is a powerful force in healing. It also embraces the individuality of each patient’s journey, which felt deeply aligned with my values.

On a more personal level, I’ve always had a natural inclination to listen to people’s stories. That’s a huge part of who I am. I want my patients to feel safe sharing every aspect of their lives with me: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. I believe a lot of healing happens in those in-between spaces, when someone feels heard, deeply cared for, and supported beyond the clinical checklist. That’s what I strive to offer, heart-centered care that doesn’t sacrifice quality or rigor, but instead integrates compassion with high-level, individualized medicine.

During my schooling I found this type of healing lends itself well to women’s health. I became deeply involved in fertility and birth work during this time. I have attended approximately 50 births and many prenatal and postpartum appointments. While attending births as a medical provider isn’t part of my practice now, I still focus on women’s care in all other aspects.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to my current practice has been relatively smooth with some pivots here and there.

After finishing school and a residency in Portland, Oregon I decided to move back to Minnesota where I grew up. It was difficult to leave a place I grew to love so much but the decision to come back to my roots was the best choice I could’ve made. I started focusing even more in the realm of women’s health and reproductive medicine, and found an even deeper calling for supporting patients here.

When I made this move to Minnesota, I was working in a bigger clinic, but after some time I found my way to owning my own practice. Which has been the absolute biggest blessing. I cherish being able to balance all the best things in my life which include patient care, herbal medicine making, being a mother to my two littles, Rue and Marigold (named after plants!), and wife to my husband Zac. Making my own schedule allows for that balance, or as close as we can get to balance!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My current practice focuses on women’s health and any condition women might commonly struggle with which includes hormonal complaints, thyroid health, digestive issues, mental health, and autoimmune concerns. I have a very niche and special focus on fertility including preconception counseling and unexplained infertility. I believe women deserve the best care and need so much more support in these areas than they are currently receiving.

Something that is unique about my practice is that I really strive to meet my patients where they are at along their health journey and with their health goals. I think holistic medicine requires making big changes in patient’s lives but I believe it can be done in a sustainable and joyous way. I also know my patients can feel that our work together is a collaboration and partnership rather than rigid, one-way decision making.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Within my life and practice I also have a love of all things food and herbs.

For me, I think food is meant to have meaning. Meaning can be health, culture, story, connection, or honoring of the earth. I love to talk about nutrition in my practice, and with that I like to talk about food in a more beautiful way, so that instead of nutrition changes feeling restrictive, they can feel expanding.

With this, I also am a big lover of herbal medicine. I prescribe herbal medicine to patients in many forms such as teas, tinctures, essences, and supplements often. I’m actually in the process of starting an apothecary called Naïve. I named my new passion project this because I have often been called “naïve” in the past for an idealistic attitude surrounding life. So when I found that the lesser known definition of naïve is “having or showing unaffected simplicity of nature or absence of artificiality” I knew it was the perfect name for this venture, turning my label into something positive and empowering.
