Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Thompson
Hi Elisa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For sure, so after graduating with my Bachelor’s in Marketing & Advertising this past spring, I returned to my home roots in Minnesota and pioneered a new marketing position with a garden center I had previously been employed with. In conjunction with my new position, I also was recruited as a content creator for a luxury wedding PR and marketing agency, where my experience in social media, content creation, marketing, and video grew tremendously.
I got engaged in the fall of 2023 and immediately fell in love with wedding planning. With my wedding coming up in 2025, I struggled to find someone trustworthy enough to take candid videos. We consume most of our video content through the lens of an iPhone via social media, which is very candid, shareable, real, and that’s the video aesthetic I desired for my wedding day. Slap Social Club was formed out of a deep need in my community – the lack of wedding content creators. I quickly recognized the demand for this new field and launched head-first into wedding content creation. What’s ironic is that I always wanted to stay as far away from the wedding industry as possible. I never wanted to get involved on a professional level.
I have a strong background in photography, but never wanted to get into wedding photography. I’m more into creative portraits, products, and branding if anything else. But, planning a wedding and working with amazing wedding industry leaders made me fall in love with the wedding industry and that’s where Slap Social Club started to form.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s going to be a huge demand for wedding content creators within the foreseeable future and getting seen is my biggest project come 2025.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m one of the few documentary wedding content creators in Minnesota who specialize in capturing your wedding day in a candid, shareable way.
Fairly new to the wedding industry, a wedding content creator is a type of content creator that specializes in documenting and creating short-form wedding-related content, using an iPhone or other smartphone for social or personal shareability.
I focus on documenting your wedding day in an eye-appealing way, with no weird angles and no missed moments. My style is very timeless, yet candid, and I seek to elevate the wedding day experience through thoughtful storytelling that captures genuine moments. Slap Social Club was humorously named after my continuous mission to create content that slaps (a very Gen Z term to describe something excellent).
You’ll find that most wcc’s including myself, have some of the fastest turnaround times in the wedding industry, due to the nature of the service of course, but what sets me apart from the rest, is not my a la carte Polaroid wedding package add-ons, my genius celebrity themed wedding package names, or that I make it a point to have no hidden fees, but it is my long-time expertise in content creation, photography, and branding that makes me an exceptional creator at documenting timeless wedding day content straight from an iPhone.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
It’s very important that brands have the ability to adapt and pivot when necessary, Covid-19 taught me this essential marketing skill in real life.
