Hi Gerae, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into esthetics began with a simple passion: helping people feel confident and comfortable in their own skin. I have always believed that beauty does not have to mean covering up or changing who you are. I wanted to create an experience where people could enhance their natural features, take care of their skin, and feel beautiful without feeling like they needed layers of makeup to feel confident.
That belief ultimately led me to pursue my career as a licensed esthetician and, eventually, to build my own business, Leigh’s Lounge. What started as a passion for skincare and helping others has grown into a business centered around confidence, self-care, and embracing your natural beauty. Every step of the journey has allowed me to grow not only as an esthetician, but also as a business owner.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road, and I think that is an important part of any small business journey. One of my biggest challenges has been building a loyal clientele and establishing myself in a competitive industry. Earning trust takes time, and I have learned that building meaningful, long-term relationships with clients is much more valuable than simply focusing on numbers.
Another challenge has been finding skincare brands and products that truly align with my values and that I genuinely believe in. I am very intentional about what I use and recommend to my clients because I want to feel confident that I am providing them with products that I would stand behind myself.
There have certainly been moments of uncertainty and plenty of learning along the way, but those challenges have ultimately helped shape the business I have today. They have taught me to be patient, stay true to my vision, and never compromise on the quality of the experience I want to provide for my clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Leigh’s Lounge, I specialize in advanced skincare and beauty services designed to enhance my clients’ natural features while helping them feel confident in their own skin. My services include customized facials, chemical peels, microneedling, brow laminations, lash lifts, and facial waxing. I have a particular passion for anti-aging and corrective treatments, creating personalized skincare plans that address each client’s individual needs and goals.
Beyond the treatments themselves, I believe the environment I create is just as important. Leigh’s Lounge is designed to be a calm, welcoming space where clients can step away from the demands of everyday life and truly decompress. Sometimes that means having a conversation and getting things off their chest, and other times it means enjoying some quiet time and simply relaxing. There is no expectation to be anything other than yourself.
I want my clients to leave feeling refreshed, cared for, and confident—not only because their skin looks and feels better, but because they were able to take a little time for themselves. To me, skincare is more than a treatment; it is a form of self-care, and that philosophy is at the heart of everything I do.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Rather than relying on one specific app, book, or podcast, I find the most inspiration through surrounding myself with like-minded professionals who have positive mindsets and a strong drive to succeed. I intentionally follow people who are goal-oriented, motivated, and constantly pushing themselves to grow, both personally and professionally.
My children are also one of my greatest sources of motivation and inspiration. I want them to see me pursue my goals, work hard, overcome challenges, and continue growing even when things are difficult. I hope they will look at me and feel proud—not because everything has always been easy, but because I never stopped believing in myself or working toward the life I wanted to create.
Being surrounded by people with that kind of energy, while also being motivated by my children, reminds me to continue challenging myself and thinking bigger. Their encouragement and example inspire me to keep setting new goals, pushing through self-doubt, and believing that I am capable of accomplishing anything I put my mind to.
