Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Shervey.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Helping women feel good about themselves from the inside out was the foundation of why I opened Indigo The Label. My first location is in the small town of Shell Lake, WI, which is very rural, where cutting-edge trends and quality clothing are hard to find. I decided it was time to act on my long-time adoration of building women’s confidence through fashion and creativity, so in June 2019, we opened our doors for business.
I wanted to give our community fashion, homewares, and wellness all under one roof. Fast forward 3 years, and with many discussions of another location, being a hockey family we decided we were ready for a move and brought our second location to Duluth, MN. I hope to expand the brand even further throughout the Midwest, all the while sharing my business insight and message of building confidence in women entrepreneurs.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As many entrepreneurs probably can agree, there are many ups and downs. Some days you are like, this is amazing! I love what I do! And then others you are questioning why you ever thought you could do it. Having to learn new demographics is one of my biggest challenges. We have some people that walk in the door and say “This is for young people”, and I can assure you, that is not the case, but I don’t fully disagree. I curate pieces with all ages in mind, but choose what I think will best fit my customer’s styles. As an entrepreneur, you open your business because it inspires you, and you hope that what inspires you is also what inspires others, but it may not be for everyone and that is ok. I have to evolve while also staying true to myself and what Indigo The Label means to me.
Marketing myself is another challenge. Right now, I use social media as my main driver, but that only goes so far. I still consider myself relatively new to the business world, so I look forward to finding new ways to gain followers and become more well-known.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us more about your work?
Indigo The Label is a warm and inviting hub for the surrounding communities that showcase unique and quality brands. I am most proud of the connections I have made with my amazing customers. Getting to know them and helping them find something they love is the best part of my job by far.
Our customer service and quality at Indigo, I believe, is what sets us apart. I am so proud of my team and the experience they give to our customers, and am also proud to curate products with longevity and versatility, that will be enjoyed time and time again.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Every summer from my childhood are memories I will always hold near and dear.
Being out on the lake with family & friends, picking fresh strawberries, taking drives with the windows down and our favorite songs playing, getting up in the middle of the night to watch for shooting stars, looking for agates on all the gravel roads, the list could go on and on, but grateful for every moment.
