Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregg Hall.
Hi Gregg, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Gregg “Cheech” Hall. I grew up in a place called Smith Valley in the heart of the midwest’s driftless region. I have been playing music since age 9. I come from a large family of actors, artists, and musicians. I have been playing in the midwest and beyond for over 2 decades. My current bands are Gregg Hall and the Wrecking Ball and the Legendary Minnesota Outlaw country powerhouse- The White Iron Band.
I have spent my entire life dedicated to making music, promoting concerts, and helping other musicians like myself get heard and appreciated. In 2010 I started a company called Deece Productions. We specialize in concerts and music production. We started out doing a 30 plus musician cast tribute of the Band’s The Last Waltz. Since then we have put on countless tributes to music legends and concerts of some of the best songwriters and bands of the midwest. and national touring acts..
In 2019 we started, Cheech’s Deecefest. It is a multi-genre family friendly music festival at Bluebird Campground in La Crosse WI right across the river. We work together with Happy Productions out of Cambridge, MN on marketing and promotions every year. We have had so many midwest legendary bands over the years like, The Big WU, Maygen and the Birdwatcher, White Iron Band, Mark Joseph and the American Soul, Shoeless Revolution, Nicholas David, Pistol Whippin Party Penguins, Javier Trejo and many more. The festival takes place in Smith Valley where I grew up. My family has lived in Smith Valley since 1867 and have been making music there ever since. The ancestrial vibes are alive and well. Every year it gets better and better! A family friendly music festival at an affordable price.
Our newest and latest festival is called the Hokah Jam in beautiful Hokah, MN. Hokah is beautiful little town nestled in the heart of Minnesota side of the driftless region. We held the inaugeral Hokah Jam May 4. 2025 with my band the Gregg Hall and the Wrecking Ball and filmed a music video there for our song. “Hokah Polka”. Our video has gotten over 30k view on facebook and over 5k on youtube. I even got a nice private message from the mayor, Lee Tippery thanking us for “Puting their little town on the map. ” We held the Hokah Jam 2 9-20-2025 with the White Iron Band and it was a HUGE success!! We will be having these concerts in the spring and fall every year now moving forward and the town of Hokah couldn’t be happier.
My whole life has been dedicated to music. I started out being quite the wild man and living that “outlaw” state of mind. I have been sober from alchol and drugs for over 8 years and have turned my life around in every possible way. I am a proud father of two sons Shay (19) and Waylon (12). They both are musicians and we even had our first family band gig the night before Thanksgiving. Shay is a bass player (he has his own band too called Juiceneck) and Waylon plays viola/drums/and piano. It is such a blessing to watch life come full circle and I am now making music with my children. They are even helping plan Deece Productions events and helping with Deecefest. I am a very proud Dad.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggle was addiction hands down. Once I dealt with that everything got easier and more accessable.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a full time musician. I play a lot of little bars as a solo performer and as a duo. I book all my own gigs and manage the bands, I spearhead all the Deece Productions shows and get to work with some of the best muscians on the planet. Living close to Minneapolis I have really gotten lucky to share the stage with so many outstanding people on and off the stage. We truly have a really good scene here in the Minnesota and the midwest. I spend a lot of the year planning Cheech’s Deecefest. A festival is almost a year round gig itself.. The bands play out a lot in the summer at festivals and outdoor events. We try to put out a new record at least every other year. Our latest one is Gregg Hall and the Wrecking Ball “Live at First Ave”, We jusr released a new single called “Couldve fooled me” that came out 11-11-25. I write all the songs for the Wrecking Ball and my friend and frontman Matt Pudas writes all the songs for White Iron Band. Between the two bands we have over a dozen full albums, side projects, and singles.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Not getting in my own way and staying off the booze.
