Check Out Hannah Hubbard’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Hubbard

Hi Hannah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started working in the beauty industry back in 2016 when I was a sophomore in college at the University of St. Thomas. I began my journey at a bareMinerals boutique in Rosedale Mall. While I had always loved makeup, this was my first job in the field. During my time at bareMinerals, I developed my artistry skills and learned so much about the beauty industry. I had the privilege of working with many people of different ages, skin types, textures, and tones, which helped me diversify my artistry skill set. This job allowed me to gain confidence in makeup techniques and inspired my creativity, making my passion for makeup grow stronger.

I worked at bareMinerals for about 3.5 years before starting my full-time job after graduation at Target Corporation. Being an extroverted social butterfly who loves to stay busy, I missed the creative outlet that makeup artistry provided. While still working at Target, a few friends encouraged me to start working in the wedding industry as a bridal makeup artist. This was the best of both worlds because I could maintain my career at Target while also being involved in the beauty industry. Therefore, I decided to start a business with a friend in 2022, specializing in freelance makeup for the wedding industry. Most recently as of late 2024, after three years of partnership, I decided to relaunch myself as a solo makeup artist and operate under my own name—Beauty by Mae.

Note: Mae is my middle name.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, running my business has been a smooth journey. When I started in the wedding industry, I had zero expectations of what I was getting into. I quickly became satisfied with how my business was progressing and the steady clientele and wedding bookings I was receiving.

Early on, the biggest challenge I encountered as a business owner is the feeling of “imposter syndrome.” There are so many incredibly creative and talented makeup artists in this industry, and it’s easy to let your mind play the comparison game, making you wonder if you are good enough. As I have gotten more and more bookings and more years of expereince, my confidence in myself and my work has grown. I’m really proud of the business I have created and am excited to see what the next year—my first year as a solo artist—has in store.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the founder and owner of Beauty by Mae LLC. I am a freelance makeup artist specializing in bridal makeup based in Minneapolis, MN. I focus on natural and soft glam makeup that elevates a person’s natural beauty, allowing them to feel radiant and comfortable in their own skin.

Overall, I am really proud of the relationships and friendships I have built as a makeup artist. It’s such an honor to work with brides on their most special day, helping them feel like their most confident and beautiful selves. I pride myself on bringing exciting and positive energy to their wedding day, allowing them to feel completely at peace and comfortable when they sit in my makeup chair. Last year, I received a testimonial from a bride that perfectly encapsulated the impact I strive to have on my clients: “She was such a fun energy to have while we got ready. I was actually sad to see her leave once her job was done! I absolutely loved getting to know her and would recommend her to any bride-to-be.” This affirmation encourages me to continue cultivating meaningful connections, ensuring that every bride feels celebrated, beautiful, and loved on her wedding day.

As of recent, I am also really proud of the website I built to launch my new business as a solo makeup artist. This was a goal I’ve had for over a year so it was really fun and exciting for my vision to come to life through this website and give people a better sense of who I am as professional makeup artist.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
For brides looking to hire a makeup artist for their wedding day, I’d be happy to work with you!
