Today we’d like to introduce you to Hayden Rusco.
Hi Hayden, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We are a group of four women, a mother and daughter/daughter-in-law team. The idea of the bloom bus started when we mixed our love for flowers with out families long time love for vintage cars. We wanted to get into the flower business, on the end of markets and pop up events. We. started discussing as a team ways we could do this in a unique way, and a way that felt personal and like ourselves. Thats when we started talking about having a staple vehicle. We had discussed trucks, wagons, carts, unique classic cars and more when we came up on the idea of a VW bus, also known as a VW Kombi. Now we had little experience as a family with VW. Our families typical classic car was much faster then this cute little bus that doesn’t go over 60 mph (and that is pushing it). We spent lots of time researching the history of the VW bus, the mechanics, and of course looking into buses for sale. Our dad (also our now bus manager) came across the cutest mint green/pistachio 1993, 13-window camper style VW bus that had been fully restored and was located in DeLand, FL. We got in touch with the seller who was able to share with us all the history of the bus, from how it was imported from Brazil, to the team in Brazil that worked on restoring it and more. We decided at that point to go all in, and go for it. We flew out to Florida within two weeks of finding the bus. We drove from Orlando to DeLand and met Daphne (our VW Bus) for the first time. It was perfect! From there we attempted to drive from Deland to Cape Coral FL. We made it about an hour and half in when something didn’t sound right. It was a minor mechanical error, but being out of state with a lack of tools we had to get the bus towed. It took sitting at a McDonalds for nearly two hours before we found someone to tow it. When the tow truck took the bus away we had no insurance on the bus yet so we had our full trust with the independent tow company. The next day the bus made it to cape coral FL where we were able to store it in a garage for some time before it was then shipped to MN. A few weeks after arriving to MN we had our first event at The Hub in Anoka. Since then we have got out the mechanical errors of the bus (creating a lot of memories), which is expected with a vintage car, and we have been poping up at event since. We have taken on some private parties as well creating center pieces and more. We will have been officially The Bloom Bus for one year in September. Summer 2025 will be full or markets, pop ups, private parties, community outreach and so much more. We absolutely have loved what we have created together as a team, we love being able to share our love for flowers, unique vehicles, and sharing the love of God with everyone we encounter. We continue to pray for our small business and are open to where God takes us. We learn something new everyday and are never bored.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have faced some challenges and learned a lot along the way. From losing hub caps, to our clutch breaking. We have worked out the mechanical issues that come with owning a vintage vehicle. We have learned so much about flowers alone. From design, to types of flowers, and what it looks like working with flowers in the winter months. We have had to work hard in advertising and creating a business out of nothing. We have met so many people through social media, events, and in the community. We are so grateful for everyone who has been following us along in our first year. Each event is better then the last.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We sell flower bouquets at markets and pop ups, as well as have a build your own bouquet bar service for markets, pop ups and private events. We also rent the bus for photoshoots with and without florals.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to us is continuing to spread the love of God with everyone we meet. We have a passion for what we do and implementing our faith, family, and community into our work. We take pride in what we do! Creating connections with new people in our community has been a highlight of our journey. We want to continue to love on others, and bring smiles to people faces when they see the bus or when they select the perfect flower bouquet for themselves or to gift to another. We are not where we are today as a small business without the blessings that have come our way, and the opportunities that God has given us.
