Check Out Heidi Seymour’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Seymour.

Heidi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been in the beauty industry for nearly 27 years, and I truly believe it’s a gift from God to work in a field where I can help others feel confident and see themselves at their very best. One of the things I love most is the opportunity to pray for, encourage, and cheer on every guest who walks into the salon.

Throughout my career, I’ve gained a wide range of experiences. For the first 12 years, I worked in a salon where I learned and grew tremendously. I became a trainer, bought into the business about six years in, and helped open a beauty school where I trained the educators. Those years were full of personal and professional growth. Unfortunately, the salon closed in 2010 due to the economic downturn, and I moved on to work at another local salon for a few years.

Eventually, I felt called to become an educator at a beauty school. That experience stretched me and taught me new skills, but I quickly realized that while teaching was fulfilling, my true passion was behind the chair. I accepted a position as the salon director at a salon and spa, which allowed me to blend leadership with creativity—something I really enjoyed.

When COVID hit, my top priority was creating a safe, welcoming space for my guests. That vision became a reality with the opening of Renew Salon in June 2020. I had no idea just how fun, rewarding, and inspiring this journey would be. My love for the beauty industry has only grown stronger, and every day I’m fueled by the opportunity to help others chase their dreams.

One of the best parts of owning my own business is being able to share my passions beyond the salon. I’ve partnered with an incredible local non-profit called Lift Up, which supports meaningful projects both locally and around the world. As part of this partnership, Renew Salon donates 10% of all retail sales to Lift Up. It’s such a joy to give back and be part of something bigger than ourselves.

In April 2024, I hired my first employee with the hope of showing her what’s possible for her future. I’ve also noticed a gap in the salon suite industry—so many talented professionals open their suites only to close them shortly after. I want to help change that. I want to empower, guide, and support others so they can thrive in this industry.

My heart is for the guest, the employee, and the suite owner—to grow, thrive, and walk confidently in their calling. I’m excited for what the future holds and am deeply committed to being a part of others’ success stories. I LOVE working hard for my family.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’m not sure any road in life is ever truly smooth—but I’ve come to really love the twists and turns along the way. Those moments are where my faith in God anchors me, helping me find the lessons and the growth in every season.

One of the hardest turns came in 2010, when the first salon I worked at had to close due to the economic downturn. It was a difficult time—employees were displaced, debt had to be managed, and many dreams seemed to crash all at once. It was heartbreaking to watch something we had poured so much into come to an end.

But perhaps one of my most personal challenges came outside of the salon. My husband, Jeff, and I faced a difficult journey through infertility. It was a deeply emotional time, and yet, I still had to show up and lead. I had to be strong for my guests and my team, making sure my personal heartache didn’t affect their experience. Some days were harder than others. In an industry that is so relational and personal, maintaining those boundaries wasn’t always easy—but it taught me a lot about grace, resilience, and the strength that comes from leaning on God.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a hairstylist and salon owner with a deep passion for making others feel confident and beautiful. One of the sayings we live by in the salon is: “I’m just a girl who loves to make other girls feel awesome.” That truly captures the heart behind everything I do.

A strong consultation is incredibly important to me. I want to fully understand what’s working for my guests—and what isn’t—so I can find real solutions and create a look that not only works, but feels amazing for them.

I genuinely love all aspects of this industry! I’m certified in cutting curly hair through Ouidad, and working with curls is one of my absolute favorite things to do. I also love color—whether it’s grey blending, blonding, or simple maintenance. I believe the little details matter, and I always try to maximize time and value. If I can give a guest a manicure during their appointment to help simplify their day, that brings me joy.

For me, it’s all about the total look—and helping each guest leave feeling their very best.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe luck has played much of a role in how my life and business have come together. For me, it comes down to three key things:
1. Faith – I’ve always made it a priority to put God first in both my life and my career. I consistently pray for wisdom and guidance, trusting that He will lead me where I’m meant to go.
2. Hard Work & Determination – Success isn’t something that just happens. It takes consistent effort, perseverance, and a willingness to do the work. When I set a goal, I ask myself: What am I willing to do to make it happen?
3. Education – I’m always asking, “what do I need to learn next?” Gaining knowledge is only part of it—it’s what you do with that knowledge that makes the difference. I believe in learning, and then putting that learning into action.
