Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill and Jeremy Hansen.
Hi Jill and Jeremy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Indigo River Creations is a husband and wife-owned small business out of Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Jeremy and I met back in high school and have been married for nearly 25 years.
The name originated from a blend of my favorite color (purple) and Jeremy’s favorite color (blue), and we live near the river. We have two amazing kids and have always had a huge soft spot for dogs. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2003 and retired from my full-time job soon after that.
My sister Lisa taught me how to make jewelry and I was hooked! Over the course of the pandemic, my jewelry hobby developed into our small business. Since then Jeremy and I have been working together as a team in handcrafting jewelry and accessories.
Because we make each piece by hand, every piece is unique and special. Our jewelry is handmade with authentic gemstones, and we also have one-of-a-kind clay creations. We are currently in Random Hippie in Anoka and are planning to branch out to other fantastic shops and boutiques in the next few months.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of my hardest struggles is not knowing from one day to the next how I will be feeling, or if I will be able to walk without assistance.
One thing that I love is that even if I cannot walk, I can still create gorgeous pieces in my studio. Indigo River Creations has been a true blessing in helping to keep me positive, and I love bringing more beauty into the world.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Every piece of jewelry is handmade, and no two are the same. We have two main jewelry collections. We have our gemstone collection, which features stunning natural gemstones.
Our other collection is clay jewelry, using different techniques to create unique patterns and styles. We do not mass-produce any of our creations, so every piece is considered a limited edition work of art.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Some may say being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis was bad luck. I, however, like to look at it as my diagnosis put me on a different path, and that path has led me to where we are today. I can do what I love, with my life partner, and I am surrounded by beautiful things (and sparkles!).
