Today we’d like to introduce you to John Ryder.
Hi John, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Empires of Delirium first started as an idea when I was still doing music out in Los Angeles. When I moved back from Los Angeles to Minneapolis-where I’m from- I knew I wanted to bring some of LA with me. I was playing in a band PLSTICME at the time and we were getting ready for a debut here in Minneapolis–then covid and riots hit and everything went topsy turvy. I didn’t touch my guitar for a while living through that rough summer. Sometime in the fall of 2020, I decided it was time to get back up and focus on music. At that point, I knew it was time to reflect on the year and bring forth the idea I had for Empires of Delirium. Mostly cause it felt like we were living in an Empire of Delirium.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been exciting for the 13 months Empires of Delirium has been a project. I haven’t had a drummer of my own but I’ve been borrowing Chris from the band Anomic to play on my music– That part has been exciting; having such a talented dude to work with. I also brought Jay in from Anomic to help me record the first EP.
As far as the journey in the last year we just finished up a midwest tour. We’ve released 2 music videos and have 3 music videos coming. Empires of Delirium was signed to a label for like 3-4 months. What’s crazy is that a week into recording, we even got offered a festival slot that we originally accepted but then turn down cause it was just too soon. So it’s been a pretty fun ride so far.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Well, Empires of Delirium is my main project–it’s a 2 piece hard rock show. I play bass and sing/scream and write the songs. When I’ve got the song to a point where I’m happy, I bring them to Chris. I’d say the huge sound of the band and story is what sets EOD apart from other local bands. I like to bring in comic references and pop culture references into music and think that will be more evident new music that we’re going to release in 2022.
What matters most to you?
At this point in my life, I really just want to make making music and touring my life. I want to put on the best shows we can and have everyone leave at the end of the night feeling like they had a good time.
