Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Mariah.
Hi Katelyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a visionary artist and traditional herbalist. A combination that will make more sense as my story unfolds. I have been painting professionally for 35 years. I have a BFA in studio art, a degree in psychology, a degree in art therapy, and professional training with a master painter in a Renaissance painting style. I was a psychologist for 26 years working with children and families in challenging and abusive situations. I used art as a healing modality with clients and other techniques. Art has always been my path to healing and spiritual growth as well. I am also an entrepreneur and have had several businesses focused on artistic endeavors. I created a therapeutic game that teaches children how to express healthy anger that a major game producer has sold for 25 years. The biggest thing I would like to focus on in this article is the healing power of art and how I healed after 5 heart attacks and open heart surgery but painting a series of paintings centered around the anatomical heart.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In terms of art, I would say the biggest obstacle has been getting the word out about my work as an artist marketing hasn’t been my strong suit. I have had to put my art on the back burner several times to focus on work and raising my 2 children alone. The kind of painting that I do is very intuitive and carries deep spiritual messages. I know it is part of my reason for being on the planet. I believe that part of the heart issue was that I wasn’t doing what I was told to do. I was putting all my energy into making money and wasn’t doing what I was passionate about. So between March 2016 and November 2017, I had 4 heart attacks and open heart surgery. I had a 5th heart attack in March 2019 due to a traumatic experience. In terms of struggles, this period of 4 years caused great financial stress for me, losing my entire savings, maxing out credit cards to pay medical bills, and losing my livelihood because I was too sick to work. I finally felt healthy and strong either at the end of 2019, and it felt like it was time to focus all my efforts on my art and building a business around it. Well, we all know what happened at the beginning of 2020! So just recently, I have started to traction with my art business. And I am still challenged financially as I build it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am known for painting whispers from my soul. I can get out of my way, tap into information from other realms, and bring it into a painting that tells a cohesive spiritual story. This is what Ron Mangravite, an expert in symbolism and mythology, said about my work:
“In attempting to find her identity, which is the Goddess, and find ways she could manifest, she went down deep enough to get totally past Katelyn, to get totally past everything but her femininity, because these images are the Goddess. My work is unique because I am incredibly psychic and visionary, and I have the skills to put information that I tapped into a painting that speaks to people at a higher level. I have used these skills not only to paint images but to paint soul portraits for other people that bring them higher wisdom. My clients tell me they can’t believe how accurate and resonating the paintings are. This brings me to using art for healing. Early in my heart healing journey, I was inspired to start painting images that included the anatomical heart. I ended up painting 125 paintings. Because of my ability to tap into higher wisdom, each painting that I did not only showed me that I would heal but showed me that I was on the right path. So many of the paintings were prophetic, showing me things before they happened. I am convinced that without the artwork, I might not have survived and healed the way I have. Another part of my healing process was using herbs. I just completed The Science and Art of Herbalism by internationally known herbalist Rosemary Gladstar and received a certificate as a Traditional Herbalist. I have been creating organic, homegrown herbal products for a year that I can find on my Etsy shop.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I consider myself a fortunate person. I am lucky to find 5 or 6 4 leaf clovers every summer. I have always had a guide or angel show up at the right time. My entire life has been filled with magic despite the challenges I have had. I don’t believe in bad luck. I believe that challenges happen so we can learn, and thugs that didn’t turn out the way I wanted were Divine interventions that kept me from going down the wrong path.
