Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Hart.
Hi Kathryn , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started like any other hairstylist right out of school, renting my own chair and advertising like crazy to get people in my chair. I started out in Brandon SD December 2018, for a few years. Once I was pregnant with my 2nd daughter I decided I need to work where I lived , and my husband and I bought a house in Luverne MN, which is our hometown. I just worked out of town at the time, so March 2023, I contacted Felicia Hanson who owned Sincerely Yours Salon. She had a chair available for rent so I did the work of transferring my SD license to get my Minnesota license. I was still pregnant with my second daughter and Felicia and I had a talk about her selling the business to me! I told her I would love that but I need my have my baby first and I need to build my clientele here first. She totally agreed and sure enough a year later it was all falling into place. In July 2024 I took ownership of the salon and I revamped it and named it Hart Beauty Lounge!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With any business process there is always well a process, its not easy, all the planning and figuring out what all behind the scene things need to be done to make this happen. But any bump along the road I just told myself, its okay we have this, let’s figure this one out. I always figured out each thing and life would go on, so if thats normal ownership I would say pretty smooth sailing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Cosmetologist/Owner of Hart Beauty Lounge. I specialize in all colors, Womens and mens haircuts especially fades and layering. The girls call me the foiling queen and toning queen! Lol! I am most proud of how hard I worked on getting to where I am in the knowledge of hair. If I had a question I would ask and know before doing. Determination, passion, and the ability to visualize the outcome before we get started. What sets me apart from others is that you will always feel cared for in my chair or in my salon. The goal for each client is to find out their beauty struggles and do our best to make their life easier by being able to take away the stress of hair not looking good or cooraperating for them every morning.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would say good luck. Its hard to even get a buisness in the first place. I was lucky for having Felicia see me as a business owner and she came to me and gave me this opportunity. And I would say lucky to have such a supporting family, my husband Brennan, my father in law and mother in law, Mike and Kristee Hart. My Mom and Dad Nils and Rachel Renken, my grandparents, Darrell and Leah VanMeeteren. These people are always checking in, seeing if I need anything and seeing of anything needs to be done. I seriously could not have done this without any of them.
