Check Out Lisa Hanson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Hanson

Hi Lisa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a creative at heart, and I try to tune in to that part of myself with everything I do. I started doing theater at a young age, through high school, and beyond! In my younger adult life, I was working multiple jobs in different career paths, while doing community theater on the side to fulfill my passion. During that time, I also worked as a freelance makeup artist with different photographers and clients around the Twin Cities. Then, I realized I could take creative endeavors through schooling at Aveda Institute and decided to turn my love for beauty/fashion into a career! For 4 years after graduating, I was one of the top Brow Specialists for Benefit Cosmetics at Ulta Beauty and formed a long list of amazing client relationships I still cherish to this day. After Covid hit, it caused me to think about a lot. I wanted to take my creativity into other fields and step away from the beauty industry completely. From there, I honed my Content Creation/Social Media skills, grew an audience, and started working as a personal stylist and a digital creative! Eventually, I connected with a great start-up VR company which was an incredible experience. I learned a ton and it pushed me into the world of tech like never before! I loved it, but due to some unexpected life events, I had to step away from multiple projects. Since then, I’ve been still working as a personal stylist remotely, but also creating an authentic presence on Social Media to inspire others about feeling their best with how they dress. Currently, I’m working on possibly building a website for all of my creative endeavors and a space where I can truly show my unique talents to the world. There, people would be able to connect with me through different mediums, depending on their needs. It would entail everything from personal styling services & advice to Content Creation to acting/voice work. But that’s another story for another day! Who knows what the next year might bring?! Apart from my career, I love the outdoors, two amazing siblings, and my partner (Jack who is a local DJ, Rain Drop), my precious dog Nala, and love to get my hands dirty. Need your brakes changed or your yard weed-wacked? I’m your girl! I’m a woman of many hats. My interests also include anything true crime, paranormal (I even assistant managed a haunted store in Anoka, The Halloween Capitol of the World for 4 years), concerts, film/media and so much more. Let’s just say, I have a LOT planned for the future!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life is never a smooth road, at least, not in my experience! Ha! Struggles come and go, some worse than others. I’ve learned a lot about letting go of things I cannot control. Some things, I learned it’s worth it to fight for! For example, my partner and I struggled with a predatory landlord for 6 months. It was a nightmare, we had to get the city involved and didn’t have heat for the first few months. Luckily, our hard work paid off and we were able to move into a new place and escape just before disaster hit! I’ve also struggled a lot with new career opportunities, as I’m sure, many people would agree with, and still navigating life after Covid. A lot changed in my brain, and I’m not the person I was before the pandemic, so I’m learning a lot about myself, my needs/desires, and my future goals. I believe it’s important for us to talk about how different things are (in everything) so we can move forward because I think a lot of us are still trying to hang on to the world the way it used to be, even though we are all changed. But that’s part of the human experience! Growth is key!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I stated before, I’m a creative person. People come to me for beauty and fashion advice, which I love, and my ideas. I’m an outside-the-box thinker! I’m also an entertainer. I grew up on the stage, singing, dancing and acting. Unfortunately, I had to step away from those things to pursue other projects, but I’m feeling the pull to get back into it!

Currently, I specialize in personal style and dopamine dressing. Fashion that makes you happy, but doesn’t necessarily follow the fashion “rules”. I believe fashion is the most convenient way to express our truest selves, for any budget or lifestyle. It can truly change your perspective of yourself, for the better! One of my least favorite, commonly-used phrases is, “I’m too old for that.” or ” I could never pull that off.”. Somewhere down the line, someone told these people their opinion and it changed their view of themselves forever. Whether it was a friend or family member, the media, or a fashion magazine. Fashions knows no age. I’m determined to help people love themselves through fashion and create a new narrative in the industry. I believe my wide background and ability to connect with others and meet them where they are at, rather than expect them to meet me, is what sets me apart.

This will sound a bit silly, but I’m most proud of two things; graduating from beauty school, and landing a dream role of mine back in 2013 (wow, over a decade!) as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray at Lyric Arts in Anoka. It was so fun and the cast was incredible!

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
We all have our own timelines, our own experiences, and our own opportunities that carry us to where we are meant to be. It’s important to remind myself of this every day, as it’s so easy to compare with everything we see on social media. Also, taking things too seriously can be detrimental! It’s important to learn how to laugh things off.
