Check Out Lisa Harris’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Harris.

Hi Lisa , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey was a long one. I became a young mom at a young age. I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry. I attempted cosmetology school 4 different times and completed on my 4th time. Prior times I was unable to continue due to lack of support but I kept trying because I know I wanted to be in the beauty industry and beauty school was my only way in. Once I completed and became licensed, I applied at several salons but my availability was not realistic. I could not work evenings or weekends with a young child, unfortunately, I could not work traditionally in a salon doing hair as I originally planned.

From then, I found a job that was looking for day time hours. It was a beauty store, and from there I fell in love with makeup. After getting experience with different people’s skin tones, type and texture, I tried to get as much free knowledge as possible. I felt like I found my nitch, makeup. A few years later, my son got a bit older and I decided to branch out into bridal makeup. I have been doing bridal makeup for over 6 years now. I’ve worked with bigger brands such at Dia and Co, Neflix and local creatives in the industry. I now offer lash extensions and permanent makeup where I work for myself at my own studio.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest struggle was lack of child care and support. As a young single mom, it isn’t easy to pursue your dreams, especially with a lack of support. It took four attempts at beauty school, 3 different schools to finally complete. Not to mention, my hours didn’t carry over so I was starting over every time. To me, there wasn’t another option, I knew eventually I would do it. Although I wanted to quit plenty of times. Thank God, I didn’t.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in bridal, editorial and film makeup. I also specialize in lash extensions and permanent makeup. I think what sets me apart is my determination and passion. I never quit and my biggest importance is my clients being satisfied with their services.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
All of the obstacles and setbacks I’ve had. It took me 6 years essentially to complete a 10-month program. I overcame domestic violence and homelessness and survived. I accomplished school which has opened doors for me today. It’s not Something I share, as it’s my Personal journey. I think people would be surprised to learn that about me… or maybe my favorite animal is a cat. Lol.
