Check Out Maggie Johnson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie Johnson.

Hi Maggie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my blog as a way to share travel advice with friends and family after I spent a semester studying in Florence, Italy. From there, it evolved into a travel and lifestyle blog where I share advice and stories. I came up with the name “The Artful Everyday” because I wanted it to reflect how I try to always find beauty in the ordinary.

Now I also offer Italy travel planning and floral and event services under my brand.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not! Setting up my blog was very challenging as someone who had never done it before. I don’t consider myself to be technologically savvy, but I made it work! There are also moments where I’m not inspired or I don’t have the time to put into my blog, but eventually, the tide changes and I’m posting again.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a writer and in turn, a blogger. I think one of the biggest reasons I write is to decipher the world around me. It’s a way to process and observe and reflect. Just like an artist paints what they see and how it makes them feel, I take what I’ve experienced and share it through my words. My favorite columns on my blog are my “everyday discoveries” and “travel impressions” columns. I get to share what strikes me about the ordinary, whether I’m at home or I’m traveling. I think one of the best parts about seeing the world is that you get to experience what someone else’s everyday life is like. It’s exciting, for me, to try on a new life just like you would a new coat.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people don’t know that I actually studied interior design in college, and worked in that field for a little while after I graduated. But, my interest in it as a career actually started to fade during my semester abroad. It was a very interesting challenge to study design and I’m really glad I did it, but I’m also proud of myself for exploring other career options and even sometimes taking a less traditional path, like when I au paired in Rome for three months. Thankfully my parents have supported me and given me the freedom to try things out and move abroad a few times.
