Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcia Prescott.
Marcia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story started when my sons and I bought Granite City Jump, an indoor inflatable bounce park. Unfortunately, I bought it 3 months before Covid. It was closed down for 8 months during that illness. I was able to pull through but it still was slow. I asked my sons to build me an axe throwing business…which they did and we named it; Nice Axe.
I stayed in the leased space until January 1, 2025. I have recently moved to Midtown Square Mall in St. Cloud. Right across from where Bonanza Steak House used to be. It is a beautiful space with 12 lanes, pinball, darts, jukebox, punching bag game, trivia and soon have food and beverages.
Granite City Jump will reopen in Midtown Square Mall in June.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been an up and down, curvy road. Complications from Covid for the first year, made definite financial hardships.
Having a small business is a wonderful opportunity but it comes with many challenges along the way. The community has been a great support and without them cheering me on, I don’t know if I would be a business owner today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started my long career as a Special Education Teacher. I loved teaching students with disabilities and different cultures. I specialized in students who had challenges with emotional and behavioral disabilities. I was very proud of the accomplishments they were able to make with some out of the box creative thinking.
I also owned a home for adults with disabilities for 10 years. That had many challenges but was very rewarding.
Granite City Jump and Nice Axe has provided me with many challenges but I am thrilled to say that they are going on 6 years of being open and they offer a great recreational, fun, safe place for children to Jump and play. Then adults can throw axes which is therapeutic and a fun release of stress
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I am happy hanging out with my sons and 4 grandkids.
I also have become a good axe throwing teacher, I guess we never know where our journey takes us. It is so fun to watch all ages from early teenagers to adults of all ages learn and get so excited about throwing axes. It is a very empowering skill to learn.
