Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Bergeson.
Hi Megan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been a creative mind, interested in writing, music, movies, art, and technology. In high school, I found my passion for design while working as Editor for the school’s yearbook, from there, I went on to Bemidji State University where I extended my love for design, color, composition, and marketing while double majoring in Technology, Art & Design, and Mass Communication.
I started to take on small projects here and there for friends and family, doing graphic design, and photography, and helping out with any creative projects. After college, I started my career working in publication for two small newspapers, as my career progressed, I picked up on more marketing and advertising skills leading me to take on more and more freelance marketing work. In 2020, I started freelance blog writing, content creation, social media management, and contract designing.
I recently took on a new full-time position for an agency as Director of Creative Strategies, overseeing creative on the web and digital marketing side of the company. I currently work on smaller branding projects in my spare time and am looking to expand my reach. The goal for my business is to eventually become a marketing consultant for small companies to help them boost their digital presence and overall inbound marketing. It is also a dream of mine to open a small boutique/design company with custom-designed shirts, mugs, and locally sourced goods.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The design/marketing field is very competitive, with cheap design services on Upwork and other sites, and an overflow of creatives looking for work and new technologies which make a designer’s role undervalued.
It is sometimes hard for clients to see the value in what they are getting but in reality, design is the secret seller and a good brand can go a long way in the development and longevity of a new business or brand.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in branding and logo creation. I also really enjoy website design.
I’m most proud of my ability to keep continuously learning, becoming a better designer, and understanding how to reach customers. One of my favorite projects I recently worked on was a logo for a new construction company, Cut Above Carpentry.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I had a few advisors in college who pushed me to learn and expand my design skills into 3D modeling and animation.
I also have a previous colleague Amy Stockinger, who was a great mentor for me learning about professional processes, organization, and more design tips.
