Check Out Peter Steineck’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peter Steineck.

Hi Peter, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hello! Peter Steineck here, I started Hellavision Television Animation Show in 2017 as an excuse to learn character animation, and a way for what i made to be screened with friends of mine who were also interested in exploring animation. Michael Van Swearingen came on board to help with marketing and planning in 2019. We started calling it Hellavision Television Network, the name suggesting a broad web of connected creators coming together to make animation for fun and learning. We do 2 episodes a year, for each episode we announce an open call with a theme that is structured to offer hurdles and limitations for animators to experiment and learn within. We see Hellavision as a making opportunity, rather than a screening opportunity. So we suggest that animators make their animation directly for Hellavision, and we give them a decent 5 weeks to produce something quickly and without self-judgement. Our current episode, TRACK ATTACK, was created with our help by Dutch 3D Animation duo YONK. It is our 22nd episode of Hellavision, and the full program includes 140 individual creators providing micro shorts based on original music they made themselves or collaborated on. It will be screened in Minneapolis, Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, London, Vienna, The Hague, Brisbane, & Wellington New Zealand. Due to the length of this episode, we’ve made each screening unique, prioritizing local submissions, while the full 2 hour and 10 minute episode will be screened sometime in May on Twitch, and put up on youtube soon after that.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’m consistently surprised by the amount of support and reception for this project. It has been a pleasant ride.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Michael Van Swearingen has been my creative and business partner in Hellavision, we started a studio called HECK in 2022, we make colorful, silly 3D narrative animations.
