Check Out Sam Devine’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam Devine

Hi Sam, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began working with podcasts and podcast production in 2017 while looking for creative ways to promote the start-up I was working on at the time. Legacy Matters is still going strong with more than 150 interviews of interesting people from around the state of Minnesota.

In August of 2023 I met Juliet Fox and we became fast friends. Almost immediately Juliet agreed to start a new show with me and What About This Idea: Inside the Hearts and Minds of Entrepreneurs began. Within a few months of that we began producing shows for others, including This Side of the Grass (a show dealing with navigating sudden loss and living each day with purpose), Full Spectrum Cannabis (a show about the cannabis industry with a Minnesota focus) and AskClever over Coffee (a show about the state of AI).

DevineFox exists to bring stories and voices to the world that otherwise might not be heard. Our focus is on elevating our wonderful local creatives and business owners we have here in Minnesota.

Our first push into the world of entertainment podcasts is called the Tom Tom Show: The International Podcast. On the show we explore the world by choosing locations at random and making calls until we find someone willing to have a chat with us. No agenda, no pranking- we have made made our guests out of randomly selected people all over the world, highlighting how decent we humans truly are!

Podcasting is storytelling. Whether you have an important message that can help people, a valuable service you are selling or you simply want to bring a little joy to someone’s day, Podcasts/vodcasts are an incredibly effective way to get those stories and voices out into the world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any new venture, building DevineFox Productions has had its twists and turns. One of the biggest struggles has been finding the right place to record our shows. We are currently in the Itasca Building in the North Loop, which is quickly becoming a hub for creative content creation. We share the building with several recently formed recording and creative studios, which is great for us all as a community.

Another obstacle has been how generally camera-shy we Minnesotan’s can be. So many amazing people with so little desire to be put in the spotlight. Being deeply upper-midwestern myself, I understand this fear. Having helped several people get over this, I can tell you, it can be done! Raise your voices Minnesota!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For most of my working life I have provided services to others. I was a youth camp professional for nearly 20 years, as an administrator and wilderness canoe leader. I also built and ran a construction company. I never looked at myself as being creative until I began working with people to produce shows. What I am most proud of currently is how much growth there has been with our clients. From humble beginnings, very shy at first, I have seen people grow to be confident and purposeful in getting their message out into the world. That has really been what separates DevineFox Productions from the very other options there are out there. We work with our creators to grow and learn through the process, which in turn makes their shows far more impactful.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
While podcasts are plenty, the need for current and relevant content is growing. The podcasting industry is forecast to grow dramatically over the coming years. In many ways, what we have ow is the democratization and nichification of information and entertainment distribution. With so much content available, people are able to choose things that they truly care about. These small shows offer the ability to connect with people on a very human level. Our shows don’t require a huge national audience to be successful and impactful. The industry will grow, though the landscape will flatten. Instead of a few giants, there are more and more regionally and locally important shows, and I think that trend will continue.

Pricing:

  • Audio only shows start around $400 per episode for full production.
