Check Out Samantha Gibson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Gibson.

Hi Samantha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been writing ever since I was a little kid. I have this type of motivation where if I know I want to be something (like a career), I will strive towards that goal until I reach it. I’ve always wanted to be a veterinarian until about middle school when I realized it wasn’t it for me; that’s where writing took a stance. Going into high school I started writing more and my Freshman year is when I started my book “Hostage” which got published in my Junior year of high school. It took me about 1.5 years to write the book and about 2.5 years in total to get it published. I first started writing the book because I was simply bored in my classes—I never thought I would end up where I am today. Now my goal is to become a successful author (ex. Stephen King) and make writing my career. “Hostage” I’m planning it to be a three-book series. I also want to become an actress, after I graduate I plan to work on that and see if I can actually make it into a show or movie (fun fact: I’m also a voice actor). Along with that, I would love to become popular on social platforms like YouTube where I like to post gaming videos.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
You could say one of the struggles is that I have hard motivation working on my books outside of school. “Hostage” was written during school hours and I barely did anything with it outside of school unless it was some editing or the publication process. Other than that, I’d say it was pretty smooth. I didn’t have a plan for the book or the plot, etc. I wrote whatever first came to my mind.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I’ve never found a mentor for myself, so I don’t think I could give some good advice on this part. However, my English and Creative writing teacher Deena Zauft in New Richmond has been a great support for me and a huge help. Teachers being there for their students is one of the best qualities a teacher can have.
