Check Out Sean Alter’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sean Alter.

Hi Sean, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I studied music business and interned with a music placement company for commercials and sync work. After years of trying different paths in music, I realized I cared more about creating meaningful music and helping others record than chasing the industry side. Now I make music with my wife through JulyDa and mostly help Christian artists — especially Christian rap artists — record their music through Alter Music.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I studied music business and interned in music placement, but like a lot of musicians, I realized how hard it is to actually make a living from music. Honestly, it still isn’t really profitable for me — I do it because I love it, enjoy creating music with my wife through JulyDa, and genuinely enjoy helping other artists record through Alter Music. A lot of the friendships and community that came from it have made it worth it.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I make music with my wife through JulyDa and help independent artists record through Alter Music. I mostly work with Christian artists, especially Christian rap. What I’m most proud of is the community and friendships that have come from it and helping people create music they’re genuinely proud of.

What does success mean to you?
For me, success would be making a good, stable income from music while still genuinely enjoying it. I’ve learned that if I stop enjoying the creative side of it, I’d probably burn out pretty quickly.
