Today we’d like to introduce you to Shelby Matson.
Hi Shelby, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am an enthusiastic content creator with a genuine passion for interior design. I have a strong background as a social media manager for a metabolic health start-up, where I have honed my skills in growing online communities & creating viral content.
I embarked on a journey to pursue my passion by attending interior design school for a year before obtaining my marketing degree. During this time, I had the valuable opportunity to work at Safavieh in Long Island, NY, where I gained practical experience & a comprehensive understanding of the interior design industry.
As a proud owner of my photography studio, I have designed a personal apartment space specifically tailored to serve as a creative haven for local photographers & creators. It’s here that I not only provide an inspiring environment but also produce captivating content for the apartment’s dedicated Instagram page to effectively promote the apartment online & attract attention from a diverse audience.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, my road has taken me in different directions all to come full circle.
I first started with an interest in interior design then switched to marketing all to land a job in social media management while then designing my own home in a way that allowed me to create content for it/market it online.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m known for content creation and design. I love to create short videos/reels for IG and other social platforms. Some of the things I’ve done are photography, videography, graphic design, video editing, interior design, etc.
I am most proud of my home, of course. I’ve created some amazing content for several brands, but creating content that showcases my sanctuary (something I’ve designed) is top-tier for me. In the future, I hope to have a fully operational content studio where creatives can come to create and design.
What sets me apart from others is probably my aesthetic. A lot of people know me for it & will remember me for it as well.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting.
Just follow what you’re passionate about – and it’s okay if your passion changes! I used to be so worried about that and even though I’ve switched directions it all came back together for me!
