Check Out Terry Vincent’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Vincent.

Hi Terry, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been around the arts my whole life. My mother was a poet, and a writer, both of my grandmothers sang at their churches, my uncles would play in the band, and my auntie was a talented actress and screenwriter. I’ve been blessed to come from families that love, and encouraged me to pursue art. When I got older, I created a business King Industry, and my goal was to help artist fine tune their skills, and also provide what I like to call “art therapy” through a program we call Therapy Thursday’s, for those in need of a productive way to channel their grief and pain.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been very smooth, but I don’t believe any road pursuing your passion will be. Anything you’re passionate about will have its many ups, and downs, trials, and tribulations, For us we’ve mainly run into how to increase our audience and bring a bigger spotlight to the programs, and events we offer. And as many of our programs our free, so that we can help those in need of our services, funding can be tough at times as well. But all in all, both as of recent have begun to turn around. I believe once more people actually get a chance to experience what we have to offer, those road bumps will become less and less.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m blessed to be multi-talented in a few different disciplines. I’m a beat producer, keyboard player, DJ, actor, scriptwriter, and graphic designer! Out of these, I’d say I’m the best at best making. I love creating melodies, and songs from my imagination. I can draw inspiration to create from almost anything like nature, scents in the air, schools, distant memories, etc. A recent accomplishment I’m super excited to say I was a part of was being able to DJ through the streets of NE Minneapolis, on top of a van! It was such an amazing experience!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid has taught me the importance of being able to adapt, and to take advantage of technology. When the pandemic first hit, it impacted so many businesses, and local artists! It became difficult for artists to perform and generate income. Covid taught me creative ways to continue entertaining, creating art, and generating income all during the shutdown. It also taught me to not take this life for granted. Families were unable to visit each other and have outdoor activities, simple things like going for a walk, or to the movies, and bars to hang with friends were all out on hold. I think it’s important to cherish the little things, cause at any given moment, they can be taken away.
