Community Highlights: Meet Abby Drach of Indura Athletic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Drach.

Hi Abby, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I built Indura Athletic for two main reasons: to support the breadth of women’s physiques who are chasing athletic goals and to do so ethically and sustainably. Whether at the gym lifting weights, out on the trails tackling mileage, or simply at home stretching, women should feel confident that their clothing will not only hold up, but solve for the natural jiggles, bulges, chafes, and muscles that an athlete might experience.

As an avid endurance athlete myself, I have struggled to find athletic apparel that fits my muscular legs and larger lats. My struggle to find well-fitting athletic clothing is not unique. For the last two years, I’ve been working with athletes of all types including Olympians like Nordic skiers Jessie Diggins and Julia Kern, to design sports bras and tops that fit larger ribcages, wider shoulders, and smaller busts, filling a void in the market. Our collaboration has reinforced my analysis that there is a hole in the market for well-fitting athletic apparel for athletes of all levels.

Indura solves some of the frustrations that female athletes face daily. We released a spandex short that solves chafing, ride-up, and quad bulge by designing a grip-strip lined curved hem to the shorts. This spandex short was awarded the Editor’s Choice Award in last Summer’s Outside Magazine’s Buyers Guide due to its unique ability to stay put during runs, roller skis, hikes, lifting, and cycling. Indura Athletic seeks out our customers’ common frustrations with athletic apparel and tackles them head-on through iterative design and testing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As any entrepreneur knows, owning a business is often a road uncharted, filled with numerous peaks and valleys. I have encountered difficulty in meeting customer demand, navigating feedback, and determining the best strategies to grow the business.

Balancing growth while maintaining high product quality as well as ethical and sustainable production methods has been an ongoing learning process. However, despite its challenges, it is undeniably worthwhile.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Indura Athletic, we specialize in designing and producing athletic clothes for all active bodies. Our most popular products are the Stay Put Shorts and Square Neck Sports bra. The Stay Put Shorts are designed to fit the curves of your body with the inseam being longer between the thighs to prevent chafing, while the outer seam is shorter to provide a flattering look.

These shorts have a thin grip strip on the bottom hem to help keep your shorts in place throughout your workout. To fit both a women’s waist and quads, the waistband is tapered in at the top. The Square Neck Sports Bra has an elegant shape made with beautiful patterns, including delicate florals and fun prints, for women who want to look cute while still being a badass out on the trails.

This bra accommodates the different body types of female athletes, whether one has a larger bust and a smaller ribcage or a smaller bust and a larger ribcage.

Do you have any advice for those just starting?
The key is to just start! Many people inquired how I started my business. I began with just two products to gauge customer interest and continually ask for feedback to improve our product offerings. Each day is a learning experience when having your own business! At the outset, I wish that I knew more about apparel manufacturing.

However, by personally sewing a significant portion of our products, I have acquired the necessary experience to streamline production and prepare for larger manufacturing prospects. Presently, I wish I were more proficient in accounting and financial management. Nonetheless, these skills are being acquired through hands-on experience and are a part of the ongoing entrepreneurial journey!
