Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Renning Junge.
Hi Andrea, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
Upon returning from WWII, my grandfather, Bud Renning, started Rennings Flowers in 1959. My mom, Kim, and dad, Phil, took over in 1988 and still help run it with me. Having grown up in the flower shop, I have done a little bit of everything over the years, from cleaning bathrooms to working with customers and helping them place an order, to now more “behind the scenes” ordering items, employee management, marketing, accounting, etc.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are challenges that we have worked to overcome over the years. COVID was certainly a new challenge we had to figure out. We were able to do non-contact deliveries, curb-side pickup, etc. Ordering flowers was unknown for a while early on in the pandemic. We trust in our staff and each other and figure out how to control what we can control during those hard times.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My grandfather, Bud Renning, started Renning’s Flowers in 1959. When he retired, my mom took over as one of the main designers, and my dad joined the shop soon after to work on more of the business side. Since graduating from college, I have been here full-time and have slowly taken over more and more responsibility. The best part of the job is that every day is different. One day, I might be behind the desk working on product ordering, social media marking, or interviewing new team members. On other days, I might be on the sales floor, helping customers find the perfect gift for someone they love. We are known for our long-lasting flowers and customer service. We help customers with all occasions, such as birthday gifts, illness, new babies, corporate events, weddings, and funerals. Our design team has many years of experience; they can create anything imaginable and do amazing work. We also have an excellent selection of blooming and green plants, sure to brighten up the home or office. We have received many awards in the floral industry, including FTD Master Florist, which is a way of identifying the “best of the best” in the florist industry!
