Community Highlights: Meet Andrew Edwards of The Digital Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Edwards.

Andrew, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is King Dru “KD” Edwards.

I worked in education and community development with Black and Brown youth. Over the past decade, I have worked as a middle school teacher, community organizer, and, more recently, in the retail industry through representation in my brand, Know Your Worth Clothing, launched in 2016.

I knew there was a niche and a need to focus on the value for representation of the community via personal heritage and shared history. This gave people and eventual customers Pride and a sense of Purpose in the culture in “knowing your worth: via your proper presentation.

More recently, in the technology space, by launching The Digital Village.
In 2025, by launching The Digital Village. We took the power to empower all people via the app. The Digital Village is a media company focusing on creating an empowering platform, narratives, education, and data control for Melanated people.

Why is it important to have this platform… having this gives us a mirror and a container to build equity in…We have tremendous value in each other, our experiences, talents, and abilities create power in us simply by being in Common-Unity.

I continue to work in organizing strongly locally, learning agriculture and farming, and love spending time with family when I am not doing the “people’s work”.

I love live music, anyone with a good sense of humor, art & anime, learning new things, being in nature, and great food with great people.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say it has been a consistent one, as much as I tried to apply myself, I have gotten back from the “retail industry”. I have learned that its extremly competive and not many businesses make it, even with a great idea. It takes a lot of tenacity, support, and something really unique to come around & stay around. Because people like it in fashion and generally will copy it, or you have to stay innovative or trending as a name or brand. So it can be a lot of work to be a brand and not just sell clothing, but to make an impact and do something of worth.

So I think using the “lean start-up” model is a great look, and finding partnerships is a great way to help make your dreams and ideas a reality. Using many of the orgs, clubs, and programs along the way as well to help with the learning curve. Confidence and consistency in the business process can go a long way when invested correctly.

Embrace the process to your success, as it’s just a commitment to your success, truly in the end, regardless of what you must or will endure.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We launched in 2025 by stepping into the unique space of metadata and media by creating the Digital Village. African Americans and Latinx people make up a large portion of the creation and consumption of content that fuels some of the largest companies in the world and generates some of the largest profits for shareholders, yet both diasporas hold a minimal share of equity. My work and vision are to change that through a platform, storytelling, education, and community engagement.

Problem: We lack a positive platform, narrative, images of our community, people, and culture. We need more autonomy, equity, and empowerment, creating more positive spaces, content, media, opportunities, and outcomes for the black and brown community. We are creating the table (space) for people from the two diverse African and Latinx diasporas to gather consistently in community, communication, and collaboration. We provide “tables”, a space to positively celebrate/ promote arts, music, business, and other positive & impactful actions & events in the Village.

Solutions:
We have the ingenuity, creativity, and diversity that are part of our history; now it’s time to come together to innovate for more solutions. Win-Win Solutions!

Unique Approach: Storytelling, we create our stories and narrative, promote our history, and celebrate our culture collaboratively through a positive collective. Our ability to promote each other and uplift each other is priceless & innovative. We can create, gather, meet, brainstorm, innovate, all the solutions to any problem and create many opportunities when we come to the table in Common-Unity.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I am happiest when I am at peace with loved ones; listening to live music, enjoying comedy performances, or enjoying freshly prepared meals that I made or by them. I like to laugh, see others at ease, let the time and day slip away with memories we may have shared, or create new ones with our randomness & creativity.

I come from a large (blended) family, 5 sisters and 5 brothers, but we are all some multitalented, unique, and fun-loving people. So when we get around each other, or family & friend is a good time. This comes from both sides of my family, my grandmother’s and both parents are great & given people. Great time, just follow me around, I guess, lol.
