Community Highlights: Meet Anne Hoeschen and Amy Herkenhoff-Terres of Yoga Melrose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anne Hoeschen and Amy Herkenhoff-Terres. They and their team shared their story with us below:

Anne Hoeschen Amy Herkenhoff-Terres

Yoga Melrose, LLC includes co-owners: Amy Terres RYT200 and Anne Hoeschen RYT500. We started with humble beginnings & have paired our inspiration with a BIG vision that has grown over time. It all started in great thanks to our teacher, MaryBeth Nehl, Yoga Loft in Wilmar, where we and all of our teachers have been trained.

From a small space with 13 steps to a street-level brick-and-mortar on the Main Street of Melrose, we offer a variety of yoga classes. Missy Frieler RYT200 teaches classes with us, while Anne Welle RYT200 is our social media expert.

We are thrilled to offer other fitness classes as we diversify and meet the movement needs of our community.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We survived 2 closures during COVID, thanks in great part to our supportive community and members willing to stick to their practice virtually.

We were greatly challenged with this smooth transition to a virtual space since there were so many other changes happening at the same time. This challenge pushed us to grow and now we have virtual members that have the flexibility to practice online and in the studio.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Yoga Melrose is located at 308 East Main Street in beautiful downtown Melrose, Minnesota. We offer a variety of classes online and in our brick-and-mortar space with street-level entry for easy accessibility.

We are proud to partner with the Melrose Area Food Shelf and offer Restore & Restock. This class is donation-based and all proceeds go to the food shelf. Amy works closely with the Melrose Dutchmen athletic coaches & teams to offer yoga classes at school whenever they need it. Anne teaches Dutchmight Yoga to show how much we care about the little ones in our community. It’s a free-will offer class.

Yoga Melrose offers a variety of classes including Restorative Yoga with Massage. This is a fan favorite as we work with local massage therapist Amanda Theiler. We partner with Yoga Teacher Paula Keck for various classes including Sound Baths with her sister Lila Marquart. We’ve worked with Physical Therapist Summer Erdman and have hosted workshops for Pre-natal and Women in Perimenopause/Menopause. We keep the creative wheels moving, always working towards showing how yoga can positively impact everyone’s life.

Yoga Melrose teams up with local fitness experts Amy Van Beck of Lifestyle Fitness and Ashley Uphoff of Melrose Fitness to offer weight lifting and small group weight lifting options.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Practicing yoga changes your life.

When one pairs that with a community and a teacher that guides you through a practice, over the seasons of time, the powerfully positive impact of yoga grows exponentially. Giving the gift of yoga to yourself creates a ripple effect of loving kindness to the world around you.
