Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Deutschlander.
Hi Catherine, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Starting my own Interior Design Business was always a part of me. I finally received the courage to start CW Design in July 2020. It took the passing of my amazing sister, Renee, to make it a reality. She always believed in me and now was the time for me to believe in myself. I no longer wanted to live for “Others” but for who GOD / the Universe created me to be. It was time to close off the fear of failure and be open to love and believing in myself. CW Design is about knowing what you are capable of! As my sister Renee has shown me in my lifetime: You have the ability. You are the hero. I am your guide along the way.
My two beautiful, lovable, younger children are both autistic. They are the #1 reason for starting my own business. I had to step away from what I knew and embrace the unknown. They helped me gain a better perspective of my clients; to understand them from their point of view. It’s amazing how looking through a different lens changes everything. CW Design is built around Integrity, Family, Passion, & Legacy. I strive for these values daily in my business and personal life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
CW Design is about creating functional, beautiful, and accessible spaces for your home. If COVID taught us one thing it’s that “Our Home should bring us Joy”. These past 2 years we have been doing everything from our homes: working, schooling our children, and trying to live our personal lives. I know I am not the only one to say it has been rough. Luckily, being a Certified Interior Designer, I have been able to make my spaces functional, beautiful, and livable for my family. I was able to see the problem of not having a dedicated office area or an area for my children to do schoolwork and develop a plan for myself. “How?” you may ask. “Easy!” By asking myself questions and developing a plan around them to make my life easier. That’s what a Certified Interior Designer does: Ask questions to figure out how you function in the space, observe your lifestyle, and follow through with concept boards, drawings, and a plan of action. What makes my design service so unique is “you.” I am not your typical designer telling you what you need in your home, or what trends will make you “the talk of the town.” I am here to discern your problem and provide you a solution for it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about CW Design?
CW Design was created to bring a beautiful, functional, accessible design to your lifestyle. Yes, there are plenty of designers out there, but you often need to purchase a minimum or have a project minimum for them to come to your house. Not so with CW Design!
I help clients with a paint consult to remodel a kitchen. I educate you and collaborate with you because I know my job is to make this space joyful, and your job is to carry out your family role/lifestyle. CW Design is here to listen and give you permission to like what you like. It’s so frustrating that we (people) are always doubting ourselves for liking what we like. You just need someone to listen to you and collaborate with you on your vision. Making your dream become a reality without the stress.
CW Design is a service-based interior design firm. Being in the design industry for 20+ years, I have many affiliate partners. Your needs determine who/how I will partner with on your project. For instance, if you are doing a kitchen and bathroom remodel in the South Metro, I will partner with Kolar Construction for your project. If you are in the North Metro doing that same project, I will partner with Patrick Dorn Construction. Maybe your project is more of a makeover without any remodeling. I have affiliate partners, in the painting industry (Fresh Coat Painters), in the countertop industry (Select Surfaces), flooring (UB Hardwood and Flooring), or a gift for an amazing friend/colleague (BuyItBasketCase on Etsy), CW Design becomes your one-stop-shop.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The ability to understand, listen, and re-examine if my client does not understand. Having autistic children is a gift for this reason. I am constantly reevaluating my tone, body language, and explanations to my younger children so they understand. I just bring this same awareness to my clients. I want it to be a joyful beautiful experience. I want to make their dream become that reality without the stress.
