Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Swenson.
Hi Hannah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Where She Wore started as a creative outlet nine years ago and, like me, it’s never fit neatly into one box. I’ve never “niched down” with my content, and I won’t do it with my title or position either.
While working full-time in the footwear industry- starting in e-commerce and spending the last five years in sales- I also worked as a stylist, on-air product expert, photographer, event planner, and social media manager for other brands. I’ve built markets from scratch, created content that converts, and styled everything from editorial photography to TV spots.
After being laid off in April 2025, I decided to take the leap and freelance full-time. So here I am: juggling multiple roles, just like I always have- only now, I’m doing it on my terms.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. If anyone tells you the road was easy, they have to be lying. Add on a global pandemic and instability, and it’s been tough. I’m just starting to freelance full-time, so I am in the thick of it now. Trying to figure out taxes and LLCs, and how to properly expense my mileage. Oh, and insurance. There are new learnings around every corner.
As you know, we’re big fans of Where She Wore. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As a content creator, I love working with local businesses and helping tell their stories in a genuine, relatable way. Even with a background in sales, I never want my content to feel overly promotional or sales-y. For me, it’s always about connection and storytelling. I want my audience to know who I am as a person and to create content that resonates with them and adds value.
That same mindset carries through in everything I do. Whether I’m behind the camera, managing social media, or styling a look, I focus on finding what works for each unique person or brand. There isn’t one formula that fits all. The same outfit won’t work for every person, and the same content won’t work for every business. Where She Wore is about discovering what feels right and real for each client and bringing that to life.
How do you think about luck?
Luck has definitely played a role in my life and career, but I’ve always seen it as something that meets you halfway. For example, getting laid off in April might seem like bad luck, but it gave me the push I needed to go all in on freelancing- something I had wanted to do for years but hadn’t made space for.
I’ve also had moments of good luck, like crossing paths with the right people at the right time or being given opportunities I didn’t even know to ask for. But I think the key has been being prepared when those moments show up. I try to stay open, curious, and ready to adapt.
