Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Beier and Anne Scharmach.
Hi Heather and Anne, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It starts with an idea. Anne said to me after going to a salt room in the Chicago area, “I wish we had a salt room in Winona.” My response, “You should open one!” That’s how we began the process of envisioning what is now Suola Spä. Both of our backgrounds are in public service, so it was important to us to create a space for people to be able to relax and renew, and especially be able to experience the benefits of holistic healing modalities.
We knew right away when we walked into the building that it would be the spa with its 12-foot ceilings and original hardwoods, but we definitely needed to have a vision. We took the space down to its studs and completely revisioned the space. It was a project of a lot of love.
Suola Spä opened on January 1, 2022 and serving Winona and the surrounding areas has been a privilege and an honor.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
We were weeks away from starting our buildout in 2020, when Covid hit causing us to push pause on the project. When we restarted the process a year later, bids and estimates were almost double at times what we were originally quoted. This of course caused us to rethink the project, but we knew the community needed this.
Another challenge has been educating people on the benefits of sauna and salt therapy. Although halotherapy is becoming more of a household name with salt rooms popping up more and more, it’s still new to many people. One of our values is education and ensuring people understand the why behind our services.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Suola is a different kind of spa. We offer sauna and salt therapy.
When you come into the spa, you’ll be greeted by a friendly face who’ll get you ready for your salt or sauna session. You’ll be asked to take off your shoes and store away any devices so that you can truly relax. You’ll then be taken to The Salt Room or The Sauna Room where your session will begin.
Our beautiful salt room is truly one of a kind. White Himalayan salt tiles create a main focal point along with purposeful details to create a space of simple luxury. Enter into a relaxing environment where you can completely retreat for 45 minutes. Enjoy the warm lighting and soft music as you find stillness and breathe in 100% pure dry salty air provided via their state of the art Halogenerator.
Choose between two sauna rooms and an infrared or traditional sauna experience. The Sauna rooms are dimly lit with beautiful rainfall showers. You can between the sauna and shower or simply stay in the sauna and shower off after your session is over. Each client receives their signature scrub to help enhance their relaxation experience.
We also offer wellness experiences including yoga, acupuncture, and massage in the salt room.
