Community Highlights: Meet Holly Strack of Holly Strack

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Strack

Hi Holly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey in the beauty industry began in 1995 as a licensed cosmetologist and more recently added my license as an advanced practice aesthetician. Over the years, I’ve listened to countless clients and family members express concerns about hair thinning and hair loss. These conversations inspired me to pursue further education, specialize in hair loss and become a certified trichologist. Trichology is the para-medical study of the hair and scalp. As a trichologist, I am not a medical doctor but a bridge between a dermatologist and a hairstylist or barber. Hairstylists and barbers see their clients’ hair and scalp every 2-12 weeks, and often are the first person to notice the small changes.

Personally having experienced hair loss, I understand the impact on a person’s confidence and overall well-being. My goal is to support and educate my clients through this process with actionable steps to stop further loss and help them grow thicker, stronger, healthier hair, from the inside out.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Becoming a Trichologist has been very rewarding, but it has been a lot of work! While taking courses, online and in-person, I continued working behind the chair as an independent hairstylist. After finishing the additional licensing and certifications, the ongoing process of trying to make connections with medical professionals, wellness providers, and beauty professionals has been sometimes difficult, but overall invaluable.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a certified trichologist, I specialize in all things hair and scalp, but primarily hair loss and anti-aging hair treatments. There are many underlying causes that contribute to hair loss, and you can have more than one type of hair loss happening simultaneously. Hair loss is a signal from our body that something is “off”.

Not only do I provide an in-depth hair and scalp evaluation, I truly listen to each client and their story. Upon booking an appointment, I have clients fill out a digital form that includes questions about their lifestyle, stress, hormones, blood work, health conditions, medications, supplements, weight loss, nutrition, surgeries, illnesses, frequency of washing, hair products, family history, and genetics. These questions help to identify some of the underlying causes of hair loss, hair shedding, and potential scalp disorders. I take digital and microscopic photos of the scalp and hair follicles, which can tell us a lot.

Using the epigenetic hair follicle analysis is another tool that is not widely used here in the United States, and very few providers offer this technology. Using only 4 hairs from your head, it can help identify other factors affecting not only your hair and scalp concerns but your overall health and well-being. Excessive hair shedding, scalp inflammation/disorders, even hair breakage can often stem from nutritional deficiencies, additives in processed foods, ingredients in household and beauty products, toxins, environmental stressors, resistance indicators such as viruses, bacteria, or even parasites. Based on my evaluation, I create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. An email is sent following the appointment providing a summary of the visit, offering a multi-therapeutic approach with pricing and next steps.

My approach offers a multi-therapeutic approach with solutions such as hair and scalp care regimens, medical-grade low-level laser therapy, oral or topical solutions, scalp microneedling, and the innovative new Alma TED treatment — a needle-free, pain-free solution that uses acoustic sound wave technology for a non-invasive treatment with no downtime that helps to anchor, strengthen, thicken, and grow new hairs.

I am a lifelong learner who will never stop learning! With the continuous advancements of science and technology, new innovations are just around the corner. I have been actively involved in implementing innovation within my practice. I help educate people about their health and wellness, and I use non-invasive technology to grow hair, breakthrough topicals, and exosomes that are revolutionizing how we age. These innovations offer a different approach to hair restoration and have the potential to transform the beauty industry as a whole.

I recently appeared as a guest on a podcast in December and April. The podcast delves deeper into my role as a hair loss specialist and trichologist. It’s available on both Spotify and Apple.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Tomorrow is never promised. I lost a very important family member due to the COVID-19 virus. The shutdown impacted me by not being able to provide for my family as I am an independent business owner and entrepreneur. Having my own studio allowed me to go back to work without a lot of restrictions, other than wearing masks. Operating a business post-COVID requires all of us to reevaluate how we do things.
