Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan De Jong.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out in the mortgage industry as a sales development manager, helping loan officers gain new real estate agent connections as well as recruiting new loan officers to the company. After a little over a year of doing that, I looked into what it would take to get my licenses as a loan officer and write loans myself. My current company I was working for did not want me to be a loan officer and wanted me to stay as a Sales Devlopment manager which is when I made my first hard choice to switch companies. I started my actual lending journey with Guaranteed Rate Affinity where I officed in Arden hills for my first year and a half until switching over to help out the St. Paul office for the next 2 years. I was approached to take the office closer to home in White Bear Lake, which is when I decided to make my final move to my new company. Fairway Mortgage Company which is where I am now. I have an office in Eden Prairie, but I service all of Minnesota as well as Wisconsin
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been anything, but smooth. When I joined as a loan officer is the same time we saw rates go from 3-4% all the way to the 7s. The market was freaking out and sales were slowing down. This was all while i was trying to learn how to lend. It took me almost 4 months to close my first deal. With this being a commission-based job, it caused a lot of stress and anxiety as to where my next paycheck was coming from. It took about 2 full years to finally feel like i was making good strides in my business. Overall I have loved my choice to get into lending, but the start up period was a lot of hard work.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business specializes in all residential mortgages 1-4 units. I am probably most known for helping first time homebuyers as this was something i really cared about when i got in the industry. My wife and i had recently bought our first home and knowing the struggles that went into the process i set out to make the process easier and smoother for my buyers. I want readers to know that i am available at all times (Nights, weekend, holidays) – My team understands that the homebuying process happens mostly during the night and weekends and we make sure we are available when you need us
What makes you happy?
Spending time with family. Getting married back in 2022 to my beautiful wife, courtney, it made me realize how important family is. As we continue to grow together it makes me happy to know i have somebody to tag along with me in life.
