Community Highlights: Meet Kari Maloney of Kari Maloney Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari Maloney.

Kari, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I became a mom, it felt like everyone told me how quickly the years would fly which caused me to reflect on what I can do to help pause, savor, and seize each moment to make the most of the time we have been given. Photography has been a passion of mine for over 20 years, and I believe is a beautiful tool we can use to capture moments in time and help them last forever.

As a mom and an entrepreneur. I love spending my days with my sweet little girl, soaking up all the precious moments with her, and I love using my bonus time to help other families or individuals soak up the season they are in as well. I officially launched Kari Maloney Photography in the Spring of 2024, and it has been a joy to meet hundreds of people and capture thousands of moments this last year. I’m excited to be walking into year number two.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting and running a business is a great adventure that has been a leap of faith and walk of trust and surrender. I am ultimately stewarding Kari Maloney Photography because God is the one in charge of it. I am humbled and honored to serve individuals and families through my passion of photography. As I reflect on my journey, it has been a road marked with joy and adventure, but when asked to reflect on my biggest challenge or obstacle, it would be this — we are all given the same 1440 minutes each day, and we are all challenged to steward each of them the best that we can. There are days that I wish to have even 30 more minutes to edit just a few more photos during my little one’s nap time. Ultimately, I love being a mom and a business owner, and I am grateful for the opportunity to do both!

We’ve been impressed with Kari Maloney Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a natural light, lifestyle photographer who loves to capture beautiful moments in time. Kari Maloney Photography is based in the Twin Cities and serves families across the metro area, focused most on central and south metro. Whether it’s a family session, senior portraits, extended family, or capturing your precious little one, I count it a joy and privilege to capture these timeless moments. I love offering clients an experience catered to their vision and needs for the session. From the very first inquiry to the final photo delivery and beyond, I love to give clients a personal experience that offers all the tools you need for a great experience, leaving no stress or guesswork for you. All you need to do is select your favorite outfits (although I help with ideas and suggestions) and leave the rest to me! I am personally involved in every detail of the process of my small business and don’t use external systems to write your contract or select the best photos. I love my clients and love what I do, and I would count it a joy to serve you!

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Mentorship is a gift and something that can take many shapes and forms. I am grateful for a close family member who has walked alongside me in photography for over a decade and has been such a blessing to me in launching my business in 2024. I am also thankful for a dear friend who has run a photography business in since 2009 who is a helpful resource to bounce things off of. I also look up to our wedding photographer, Midwest Lifeshots Photography, out of Rochester, MN, who has offered insights and helpful tips along the way.
