Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Reilly.
Hi Kevin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Chicago but spent much of my early life moving around the country before eventually settling in Minnesota about ten years ago. Along the way, I had the opportunity to experience many different regions of the U.S., and even lived overseas in London for a period of time. That exposure to different cultures, people, and ways of thinking has shaped both who I am and how I lead.
Professionally, I began my career in healthcare while completing my undergraduate studies at Indiana University. After earning my MBA, I transitioned into marketing, working with MillerCoors / SABMiller before relocating to Minnesota to join Polaris. Over time, my career evolved toward marketing and advertising services, with a focus on agency work. That path ultimately led me to SixSpeed, where I became CEO and partner in 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing meaningful in life follows a perfectly smooth road. Every journey comes with its own challenges and learning moments. One of the biggest themes throughout my career has been the importance of continuous self-assessment, both personally and professionally, in order to keep improving.
I’ve been fortunate to work in exciting industries with great companies, but that often came with frequent moves and extensive travel while my kids were growing up. Settling in Minnesota, and specifically the Minneapolis area, has been incredibly rewarding as my kids prepare for college and I’m able to spend more time with my family than I could earlier in my career.
Professionally, I’ve been a part of quite a few mergers, acquisitions and start-ups over the years. With those, there is always a challenge to continue delivering the best work during times of change, growth and integration. I’ve personally learned a lot in those moments. Put simply, maintaining focus around what matters most, both at work and at home, creates a personal North Star that helps guide decisions along the way when those tougher moments come along or ambiguity starts to sneak in. It also helps to surround yourself with people that are way smarter than you, so you can learn and be challenged.
