Community Highlights: Meet Mandi Moon of The Good People

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mandi Moon.

Hi Mandi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I previously worked in mortgage banking for 10 years, climbing the corporate ladder. I was 28, had daily migraines, was in constant stress and anxiety. I was doing what I was “supposed” to be doing, checking all of the boxes, but couldn’t figure out why I was so miserable on the day-to-day.

I decided to start a side business with two of my friends, selling products online. I discovered that I had a natural talent for storytelling and brand development. Soon, I started receiving opportunities to speak, teach and train women in business around the country on brand development in order to grow their businesses.

Then people from my local community and mortgage networks started reaching out to me, asking for help with their brand presence. I discovered that I absolutely loved learning people’s stories and helping them tell them.

I remember the day my boss called me into her office for a review. I had worked super hard to obtain a promotion (and check another box), but during my review, I was told all of the reasons why I did not quite earn it. I decided right then and there that this job was a bad fit for me and I put in my notice and put everything I had into making my own business work. That was 5 years ago and I have not looked back!

As I was growing my consulting practice, I started to meet the most incredible people with amazing ideas and kept trying to find ways to connect each of them. Finally, I decided to host one big meeting to get all of these good people into a room so they could get to know one another. I called it…The Good People Power Hour. The first Power Hour had 10 people in attendance. There were sales professionals, business owners, and dreamers in attendance. Our focus was to learn a business-building idea together and find ways to collaborate. Each meeting grew month after month, and The Good People community has grown to hundreds. Through COVID, we moved to online meetings, but that only opened us up to reach further and have more impact.

The Good People has evolved into a community for dreamers and doers to plug in and connect, inspire, and encourage one another. We oftentimes hear that “it’s lonely at the top”, or that it’s a “dog eat dog world”…that you have to be ruthless or cutthroat in order to grow a business or be successful. We know that is simply untrue. We believe that there is enough room to encourage others, and with strategic collaboration, much more is possible.

The Good People meets for Power Hour on the first Monday of every month via Zoom. It is totally free, it is open to anyone interested in learning a business-building idea who wants to connect, be inspired, and collaborate. We now have a level of mentorship called The Leaders Table. The Leaders Table is a group of individuals committed to teaching and mentoring The Good People community. Since we began just over 2 years ago, countless businesses have launched or leveled up, thanks to the encouragement and support of the community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All of my struggles have been self-induced. There are moments when I stop and ask myself…”Am I crazy? Will anyone else think what I’m offering is valuable??”

What I have learned is that everyone, no matter their title/position/experience, struggles with self-doubt. But the key to success is surrounding yourself with others that can support and encourage you just enough to remind you that you are a badass.

I’ve also learned that no matter your title/position/experience, you have a story to tell…an experience that can encourage/inspire/help someone else. Our stories are our legacy, and they are our greatest opportunity for massive impact.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Good People?
The Good People is a community of dreamers and doers. We are entrepreneurs, professionals, and business owners, looking to level up. We meet once a month for Power Hour. Power Hour is a free interactive discussion open to all interested in learning a business-building idea and collaborating. We welcome those in all levels of business from all industries…we are here to learn and grow with one another. Power Hour is 1 hour long, during which a speaker teaches a business-building idea. Topics have included: developing your business’s brand value statements, identifying and overcoming challenges, and creating unique customer experiences.

I am most proud that The Good People community is free to attend and be a part of. When I was in the early stages of developing my business, I wanted to join other networking groups, but I was so intimidated because my business was still a concept, I wasn’t “successful” yet. The Good People Power Hour event is free and is open to anyone from any industry because it is important to me that all feel that they can begin their journey wherever they are at.

For those looking for higher-level connections and mentorship and connection, we have The Leaders Table program. The Leaders Table is a 9-month program that opens once a year for up to 10 individuals. This cohort has the opportunity to teach and mentor The Good People community, record an episode on The Good People Podcast, and speak on stage at Good People events. This group also acts as a mastermind for one another, collaborating and helping each other grow their businesses. The next cohort of The Leaders Table begins in January 2022.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is internal peace. Feeling internal peace and alignment. When you discover what sets your soul on fire and get to wake up every morning with a relentless pursuit of living within your purpose, that, for me, is success.
