Community Highlights: Meet Sarah Arnold of BLOOMCROFT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Arnold

Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Sarah Arnold, a passionate flower farmer and floral designer who transitioned from a successful corporate career into the fulfilling life of a flower farmer and artist. Bloomcroft, my urban flower farm and floral art studio in Minneapolis, is the culmination of my love for growing, creating, and sharing the joy of flowers with others. What began as a personal retreat with a handful of dahlias in my backyard has blossomed into a business that celebrates nature’s beauty, sustainability, and artistry.

At Bloomcroft, I specialize in cultivating heirloom blooms, with dahlias as the stars of the show. My work blends historical botanical traditions and modern design, offering fresh floral bouquets and arrangements in season and unique dried flower sculptures that highlight the enduring beauty of flowers at every stage of life. I take pride in transforming blooms into stunning, one-of-a-kind works of art—whether it’s an abundant, organic-inspired bouquet, a carefully designed arrangement, or intricate dried floral creations encased under glass in modern interpretations of Victorian cloches.

What truly sets Bloomcroft apart is this balance of tradition and innovation. Every floral design I create—whether fresh or dried—invites quiet reflection, joy, and connection to the natural world. I approach each arrangement as a work of art, thoughtfully highlighting the organic curves, movement, and sculptural quality of each bloom. I also prioritize sustainable, eco-friendly farming and design practices, ensuring that every petal tells a story of care, stewardship, and creativity.

Beyond my traditional bouquets and floral artistry, I love creating opportunities for others to experience the magic of flowers through my floral workshop experiences. These hands-on workshops invite participants to explore their creativity, learn the art of arranging flowers, and walk away with something beautiful they’ve crafted themselves.

Whether through my fresh, seasonal blooms, long-lasting dried floral sculptures, or interactive floral workshops, Bloomcroft celebrates the beauty, joy, and stories that flowers bring into our lives.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like any small business, the road has had its bumps, but I’ve learned that resilience, tenacity, passion, and a willingness to evolve are key to navigating the challenges. Running Bloomcroft has required me to stretch myself as a grower and business owner continually. While cultivating flowers on a farm may sound idyllic, it’s vastly different from tending flowers in a backyard garden. Learning the nuances of flower farming has been a journey, from understanding soil health and crop planning to managing pests, unpredictable weather, and harvest schedules.

Surprisingly, growing and designing with flowers—while certainly labor-intensive—is the easy part. However, figuring out the business side has been a more significant challenge. Defining a clear business model, identifying my market, and learning how to sell my flowers authentically and sustainably have required constant experimentation. I’ve had to make myself vulnerable, try new ideas, adjust when things didn’t work as planned, and embrace progress over perfection.

It’s not always easy. The long hours, physical labor, and ever-present uncertainty of running a flower farm can be demanding. Despite the struggles, I wouldn’t trade this path for anything. Growing and designing with flowers doesn’t feel like work—it feels like a gift. The process keeps me energized and inspired, and it has helped me build confidence, forge meaningful connections, and achieve things I never imagined were possible.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about BLOOMCROFT?
Bloomcroft: Where Nature Becomes Art
At Bloomcroft, flowers are more than plants—they are living works of art that bring beauty, connection, and joy. As a sustainably operated urban flower farm, I specialize in cultivating heirloom blooms and transforming them into stunning fresh floral arrangements, preserved floral sculptures, and hands-on floral workshop experiences. Bloomcroft’s mission is to celebrate nature’s organic shapes, vibrant colors, and delicate movements while offering a creative and sustainable approach to floral design.

Seasonal Fresh Flowers: Bringing Sustainable Beauty to Life
Bloomcroft is known for its heirloom flowers, with dahlias at the heart of what I grow and design. Each bloom is organically cultivated, harvested at its peak, and carefully arranged to highlight its natural elegance. Whether you’re seeking a bespoke arrangement for a special event, a seasonal bouquet to brighten your home, or florals for a wedding or celebration, my focus is creating pieces that feel as timeless and meaningful as the blooms. The joy of working with the seasons inspires everything I do—each design reflects the beauty and abundance that nature provides.

Dried Floral Art: Preserving Nature’s Magic
Bloomcroft’s dried flower creations offer a way to experience nature’s beauty in an entirely new form—timeless, enduring, and modern. I meticulously preserve blooms using flowers grown on my farm to retain their natural colors, textures, and movement. Inspired by the Victorian tradition of herbariums but reimagined for today, I create sculptural floral compositions encased in sleek, contemporary cloches. These preserved designs become exquisite works of art, perfect as statement pieces for your home or thoughtful, long-lasting gifts. Each piece reflects nature’s delicate magic, frozen in time and designed to inspire wonder.

Floral Workshops: Sharing the Joy of Flowers
At Bloomcroft, I’m passionate about sharing the beauty and creativity of flowers with others. Through immersive floral workshops, I provide a space where people can come together, ignite their creativity, and connect over a shared love of flowers. Participants are encouraged to experiment, learn, and leave with confidence and pride in their creations—whether a fresh floral arrangement or a dried flower piece. These workshops are about more than flowers; they’re about building a community of flower lovers, sparking new friendships, and discovering the simple joy of working with nature’s gifts. Watching others discover their artistry and connection to flowers is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

What Sets Bloomcroft Apart
What makes Bloomcroft unique is the artistry and care infused into every offering. From fresh flowers that highlight the fleeting beauty of a single season to preserved floral sculptures that turn blooms into lasting art, I approach every design with intention, creativity, and respect for nature. Bloomcroft isn’t just about selling flowers; it’s about creating experiences and connections. My focus on sustainability, artistry, and the power of flowers to bring joy and meaning to people’s lives sets Bloomcroft apart.

Pride in the Brand
I am proud that Bloomcroft reflects my passion for flowers, creativity, and community. It’s where heirloom blooms are celebrated in their natural state and preserved for years to come. It’s a space where people reconnect with nature, celebrate beauty, and experience the magic of flowers—whether through fresh arrangements, dried floral art, or workshops that spark creativity and connection.

At Bloomcroft, flowers are not just something beautiful to look at; they are a reminder of nature’s resilience, artistry, and joy. Through my offerings, I hope to inspire wonder, create connections, and share a little bit of that magic with others.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My success is rooted in curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to learn. My curiosity has driven me to continually expand my knowledge—whether learning the intricacies of flower farming, the art of floral design, or the ins and outs of running a small business. This constant desire to grow has kept me adaptable and inspired.

The business acumen I developed in corporate America has been equally important. It gave me the tools to approach Bloomcroft strategically, balancing creativity with practicality to build a sustainable business model.

Another critical factor is my ability to ask for help and be vulnerable. Creative expression is profoundly personal, and sharing it with others can feel intimidating. I’ve learned to focus on progress over perfection and set realistic goals that allow me to move forward without getting paralyzed by fear or self-doubt.

Of course, success is never a solo journey, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support of my husband, family, and friends. Their encouragement has helped me stay grounded, confident, and motivated through all the challenges. Bloomcroft reflects all these qualities and the love and dedication I pour into every design.
